—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, Nov. 13, 1976 14 Chester Co, KIMBERTON, Pa. - Chester County honored its 4- H youth and leaders involved in dairying last Saturday night at the Kimberton Fire Hall, here. The evening’s festivities began with a meal served family style. Following the dinner, trophies and gifts were handed out. One special gift went to Charles Wollaston, Toughkennamon, who was honored for 22 years of service to the 4-H organization. Several FFA chapters from Pennsylvania also received National Chapter awards. Outside of those in Lancaster County, which included Cloister, Manheim, and Grassland, there were four others which were recipients of this honor. Northern Lebanon Chapter received a gold, State College a bronze, and Mif flinburg and Headwaters both received silver. Pennsylvania was tie with Ohio for the most chapters receiving the Eastern Region National Chapter Safety awards. Both states had four meritous chapters. In the youth awards portion of the evening, the first to be honored were the county 4-H dairy show champions. In Ayrshire competition, Ardrossan G. 1 R. Just Fine, owned by Kennard Henley, 111, of Cochranville who is a member of the Manor 4-H Dairy Club, was the grand champion.. Reserve champion was also owned by Henley. The animal was Towerview Kelly’s Nina. The grand champion of the Brown Swiss breed belonged to David C. Nolan, who is a member of the Chester Co. 4- H Black and White Club. The animal was Quaker West ■ Janet Darlene. Heit Haven Pam, owned by Jeff Staner of the Tri- Community 4-H Dairy Club was grand champion of the Guernsey breed. Reserve grand also belonged to Staner. In the Holstein breed, Dean Yamall of the Manor 4- H Dairy Club, had the grand champion. She was Kieer- View Paclamar Shine-Twin. In the Jersey breed, Bruce Heller had the grand champion with Top-O-Hill Vedas Miss Grate. Junior champion belonged to Denise Andrien with Damview L. H. R. Miss Lucy. Douglas Marsh had both the grand and reserve grand Milking Shorthorns with Pinesedge Cherry Dee and Kingsdale Precious Rose. Champion fitters were also honored at the dinner. Champion first year fitter is Lome Ann Duncan of the Oxford 4-H Dairy Club, and reserve champion is Timothy Kurtz of the Chester Co. 4-H Black and White Club. < Champion first year showman is Timothy Kurtz and reserve is Lome Aim Bruce Andrien, Chester Valley 4-H Dairy Club is champion junior fitter-showman and Bruce Heller, Chester Valley 4-H Dairy Club, is reserve champion junior fitter showman. Champion senior fitter showman was David Nolan, and reserve went to Cathy Wollaston, Manor 4-H Dairy Club. The Good Housekeeping award went to the Chester Valley 4-H Dairy Club. Based on record books, county 4-H milk production awards were also given. The records are computed to a 305, 2X, mature equivalent basis for cows with a com pleted lactation. In the Ayrshire breeds Kennard Henley HI, haa another winning animal with Towerview Lively Minerva, a six year old. She milked 15,400 pounds of milk' with 657 pounds of fat. Dave Nolan also had a repeat champion in Quaker West Janet Darlene. The Brown Swiss champion gave 15,945 pounds of milk with 753 pounds of fat.
