These hybrids are planted side-by-side on the Nelson K. Stoltzfus farm located on the Highland Road, about one mile east of Rt. 41 and the Octorara High School, Atglen. The hybrids will be left standing until November 1, so that farmers may have the opportunity to compare differences in standability. On November 1 starting at 9 a.m., the plots will be hand harvested. Farmers are invited to attend. Bring your husking peg, and observe the differences. Rain date is November 2. USDA outlook planned WASHINGTON, D.C. - Emerging issues in farm policies, environmental quality, weather, the general economic outlook, in ternational trade, and the food outlook will be major topics of speakers at USDA’s National Agricultural Outlook Conference to be held here Nov. 15-18. ' ' The conference, sponsored by USDA’s Economic Research Service, Agricultural Research Service, and Extension Service, will feature presentations and panel discussions by leading authorities in government and business. In addition to policy issues, the conference will present the outlook for agriculture and the general U.S. economy in 1977, as well as discussions of agricultural trade pospects, probably commodity developments, and family living concerns. Hubbard guide offered VINELAND, N.J. - A new management guide for the Hubbard Leghorn has just been released by the Research and Development Division of Hubbard Farms, Walpole, N.H. The 12-page booklet contains management and feeding recommendations from day-old through the laying year. It is divided into three major sections. The first portion deals with the brooding period, with separate recommendations for both floor and cage brooding. Kathy Hall 4-H winner UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Kathy Hall, 17, of RD2, Littlestown, who has com piled an out': aiding record in 4-H work, recently was named state recreation contest winner in the 1976 4-H National Awards progran. Kathy will be eligible to attend National 4-H Congress in Chicago, Nov. 28 - Dec. 2. Mr. Carroll L. Howes, associate 4-H-youth division leader at The Pennsylvania State University, who an nounced the selection, said she was judged on the basis of her project wwork, leadership ability, and participation in county and statewide activities. She was picked from among the 145,000 young adults who annually take part in the Extension Service educational 4-H program. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald B. Hall, Kathy is a senior at the Littlestown High School She has been a 4- H member for eight years. A member of the Mt.- Pleasant 4-H Club, she served as vice president and county council senator. She also assisted with club ac tivities and events as a teen leader. The state recreation contest winner completed projects in recreation, photography, gardening, foods, clothing, handyman, teen leadership, bicycle, and rocketry. from 20 to 72 weeks. Of special interest is the center spread chart establishing performance and body weight goals. Also included are such key areas as vaccination and health control, lighting programs, housing and equipment, and shell quality. Nutrient requirements, body weight and feed con sumption, and performance data is presented in a series of easy reading tables. She also attended the Regional 4-H Teen Leaders Retreat, District 4-H Camp, Pennsylvania 4-H Leader ship Congress, State 4-H Achievement Days, and Farm Show. Kathy was recipient of the Danforth “I Dare You” Award. Commenting on the values of the youth program, Kathy said: “4-H has taught me how to work with other persons and has assisted me in deciding on a career.” She is one of 40 Com monwealth 4-H members being selected as state contest winners in the various project categories.
