4-H hog sale is VINTAGE - This year’s Chester and Delaware County 4-H Hog Round-up Show and Sale held at the Vintage Sales Stables on August 14 was a record breaker. A price of $3 per pound was paid for the top animal there, which was shown by Rodney Stoltzfus, Elverson R 2. In previous years, the top price paid was $1.79 per pound. In total, 51 members showed 125 pigs with two brothers taking the highest honors. As wzs mentioned, Rodney Stoltzfus, Elverson R 2, had the grand champion, a 235 pound Duroc, which was sold to Hatfield Packing BRIGGS & STRATTON ENGINES 2 to 16 HP. Scott Stoltzfus, also of Elverson R 2, had the reserve grand champtlon which was sold to Penn Packing for $l.BO per pound. With a weight of 225 pounds this animal total price came to $405. All together, six classes were sold with Dave Stauffer taking first place in Class I, Scott Stoltzfus taking first in Class 2, Rodney Stoltzfus taking first in Class 3, Bill Beam taking first in Class 4, Tim Stoltzfus taking first in Class 5, and Eric Muhlmatt taking first in Class 6. record breaker Junior Showman honors went to two Delaware County youths. Joseph Owens was junior showman and Keith Bryan was reserve junior showman. The titles were evened out, however, when two Chester County youths took the Senior Showman aswards. The senior showman was Bill Beam and the reserve senior showman was Diane Beam. John Holloway had the champion trio, while Bill Beam had reserve champion trio. Excluding the top three placings, the price ranged from $55 to $95 per hun dredweight.
