A nonprofit educational corporation, the Council will unify functions of the National 4-H Foundation, Washington, D.C., and the National 4-H Service Committee, Chicago. The two organizations for many years have represented 4-H nationally on behalf of the private sector. The new Council is ex pected to strengthen the private sector’s role as an effective partner in the overall 4-H program con ducted by the Cooperative Extension Service. Donors supporting 4-H for more than 30 years include Kerr Glass Manufacturing Corp., food preservation program; Westinghouse Electric Corporation, electric energy; Coats & Clark Inc., clothing; The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, automotive; Amoco Foundation, Inc., petroleum power; and General Motors, safety program. These donors are among about 30 that offer a full schedule of awards to 4- H members: medals of honor at the county level, expense-paid trips to National 4-H Congress for state winners, and national college scholarships.
