16— Lancaster Farmlni Fava Guernsey takes grand champion honor By DIETER KRIEG HARRISBURG - Fourtccn year-old Alisa Marie Fava of Scenery Hill, Washington County, had another big day in Harrisburg this week while showing some of her prize-winning Guernseys at the Farm Show. Her aged cow, “Apple Brook Cpl Cass,” cap tured the senior and grand championship banners in open and youth competition repeating a feat she had done previously at the two most recent All-American dairy shows, here. Calling Co-hill Farms her home, the young Guernsey enthusiast is a member of a prominent dairy family which has won recognition at DHIA banquets and the show ring. For the DHIA testing year Just completed last Fall, the Fava Brothers herd averaged 10,622 pounds of milk and 499 pounds of butterfat on their 99 head of registered Guernseys and topped it off by having the highest individual milk production record of any Guernsey in the state. This animal is a nine-year-old with over 21,000 pounds of milk and 812 pounds of butterfat to her credit for the past year. A member of the 4-H organization for the past five years, Alisa has been making trips to Harrisburg twice each year for the past three years - to the All- American in the Fall, and then to the Farm Show in January. Asked how she liked showing cows, she answered simply: “It’s neat." Alisa showed the same cow to grand champion honors in the youth division of the show, while her younger sister, Renee Anne, won the reserve grand champion banner in that contest. Both are members of the Pike Run 4-H Agricultural Club. Following are the results of the youth division in Guernsey competition: Heifer Calf 1. Shady Hillside Farm, West Chester; 2.
