In a matched-lot, con trolled experiment in Leavenworth, Kansas, consumers were given a choice between buying eggs priced by the dozen or by the pound. They preferred to purchase eggs by pound over the dozen in ratios of 3 to 2 and 2 to 1 for large and medium eggs. Over 1,500 consumers who purchased eggs In the area studied were interviewed for their reactions.
