This relatively new method of outletting the surplus sur face water is installed on the Clyde Bucher farm, Manheim R 5. Cropland terraces are earthen structures across the slope of a hill that intercept runoff water from heavy rains. A system of tile underdrain carries the surplus water away to a safe disposal area, reducing one of the chief causes of soil erosion and stream siltation.
