Fed cattle prices came under severe downward pressure in reflection of extremely bearish con ditions which engulfed the carcass trade late previous week and carried over into the current period. Part of downturn in live prices a delayed reaction since supplies late previous week were insufficient to reflect the break in carcass trading. Activity generally slow as buyers sought to establish an acceptable ratio between current live prices and carcass realizations; in addition, most slaughterers came into period with suf ficient bve inventories on hand for immediate requirements and were not aggressive for large ad ditional numbers with some curtailing slaughter quotas.
