Most consumers are totally unaware of how many important products rely on some cattle by product for their existence." According to Huston, the Council has received many questions concerning by products. “Consumers are interested in every phase of our industry. Mrs. Doris Thompson, head of the Snowmobile Unit, reported that over 100 ap plications have been returned to date because of wrong mailing addresses caused when the owners moved and failed to notify the Department of the new mailing address. She said all the ap plications for renewal were placed in the mail during the early part of last week and all owners should have received their applications by now. Those who did not should contact the Depart ment with their correct mailing address and the current registration number. “I am happy to see that the registration renewal forms are being returned so quickly,” said Mrs. Thompson, “and if we receive the cooperation required of all snowmobile plaster on watts and asphalt on streets, or insulate homes. Lubricants, cosmetics, adhesives, soap and violin strings arc also on the cattle by-product list. Besides the brochures, the Council is spreading the by products story through its scries of "thought-leader" advertisements. An ad vertisement in the Sep tember 13 issue of the National Observer will deal with by-products. The series is designed to reach those people who influence overall community opinions. "Cattle have always enriched man’s life,” says Huston. “Their importance to modem man goes far beyond being the source of a nutritious and enjoyable food. And it is the many uses for by-products that helps keep the cost for beef well below what it might other wise be.” Single copies are available, or quantities may be ordered at the following prices: 1 to 99 copies, 10 cents each; 100 to 999 copies. Serious hunters arc now cleaning their guns and gear in preparation for the hunting- season. Let’s not stop with gear preparation. Consider the condition of the hunter also. The first day of hunting season each year takes its toll of hunters who collapse and sometimes die.' Over weight and poor physical condition are major causes. Hiking, jogging and counting calories are wor thwhile projects for the fellow who wants to get out there and enjoy himself. A hunter should decide on a program of conditioning activities that will improve his ability and the time he can keep going. Start it early and stick to it. The practice of making high-moisture ground car corn or shelled corn has gained in ac ceptance recently and makes a very good livestock and dairy feed. Many questions concern the proper amount of moisture in the kernel and cob. Our Penn State engineers inform us the range of moisture for high moisture ground ear com is from 30 to 35 percent. For shelled com, the range is between 25 and 30 percent. If moisture is above these ranges, harvesting should be delayed. If moisture is lower than the given amounts, it is suggested that Vh gallons of water per ton be added for every one percent of in crease in moisture desired. Grain will ferment and preserve itself naturally if the proper amount of moisture is present. Girl in restaurant as boy friend studies the check: “You look ill.
