4-Hers show hogs LANCASTER - 4-Hors from Lancaster County' ended their season of hog fattening projects by exhibiting their entries at the annual round-up held Tuesday at the Lancaster Stockyards. Kerry Boyd’s 215 lb. Duroc hog, topped the field of some 136 pigs to be selected as grand champion of the show. Boyd who resides at Ephrata Rl, is a member of the Lincoln Community 4-H Club. Along with his grand champion entry, Boyd also exhibited the lightweight champion and the Class 1 champion. Other top placing hogs were exhibited by: Scott Sipiing, Marietta Rl, who had the reserve light weight champion; Tim Grube, Elm, who had the reserve medium weight champion and Tom Ruoss, Ephrata, who exhibited the reserve heavy weight champion. Other class winners were: Robert Host, Lancaster - Class 5; Tom Baum, Elizabethtown, - Class 6; Stuart Heisey, Elizabethtown Rl, Class 7; Richard Hess, Lititz, Class 9 and Becky Lefever, Manheim, Class 10. Top fitter and showman in the Junior division went to Tom Baum, Elizabethtown with Bernie Gish, Elizabethtown, taking the senior honors for the second year in a row. Other youths honored in the fitting and showing competition included:Scott Sipling, Stanley JlGlsey, Alien ACKiey, Anna Augsburger, Ton Ruoss, Tim Grube, Kerry Boyd and Stuart Heisey. The sale grossed over $19,000 with 136 hogs selling for an average of 66.6 cents per pound. August 30.1975- Solanco Fair expands New buildings at the Solanco Fairgrounds are nearing completion as fair time approaches. The facilities are scheduled for use this year when the fair opens on Sep tember 17. Interested exhibitors, both in and out of the county, are asked to contact the Fair Association by Sep tember 1. Part of a $90,000 expansion and improvement program, much of the work has been done by local volunteers. Funds for the project have come through donations and loans. An estimated $5,000 will be saved annually on tent rentals alone. The exhibit building, left, measures 58 by 110 feet and will have eating facilities when completed. The new livestock barn measures 46 by 150 feet. 13
