New appointments at ABS Russel J. Berna, 33, has been appointed Director of Marketing and R. Grady Rankin 111, 30, appointed Director of Administration and Finance, according to an announcement by Dr. Robert E. Walton, President of American Breeders Service, a DeForest, Wisconsin subsidiary of W. R. -Grace & Co. Reporting to Berna will be all departments of marketing, including Domestic; International; G3(DSS KOEHRING Farm Division ABS of Canada Ltd.; and AMBREED, comprising New Zealand and Australia. Mr. Rankin will have reporting to him all areas of finance and administration. In August, 1974, Berna was appointed to the position of Operations Assistant to the President. Prior to this, he served as Regional Sales Manager in California; Regional Sales Manager for the territory of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky; and District Sales Manager for northern Illinois and Indiana. He began his ABS career 14 years ago as an ABS Genetic Engineer in McHenry County, Illinois. A native of Burlington, Illinois, Berna attended Elgin Community College, Elgin, Illinois, and graduated from the Dale Carnegie Leadership Course Management Seminar. Berna and his wife, Bonnie, have two daughters ... Lori, age 12, and Dawn, age 7. They reside at Route 2, Wilson Road, Poynette, Wisconsin 53955. Joining ABS in late 1974, Mr. Rankin first served as Financial Analyst. Prior to this, Rankin was employed by W. R. Grace & Co., New York, on July 1, 1974. He is a 1972 Bachelor of Science graduate of Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, North Carolina. Rankin received his Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1974. While at Western Carolina Univer sity, he was a member of Honorary Scholastic Fraternities and the Dean’s List. He received first-year honors at Harvard Business School. Rankin was born in Camp Rucker, Alabama, and was reared in North Carolina. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970. Mr. Rankin and his wife, Sandra, reside at 4580 Golf Road, Windsor, Wisconsin 53598.
