Joan is recipient of a $5O U.S. Savings Bond and will be eligible to attend the national conference. All five will compete for awards at the national level. Dr. Robert B. Lewis, leadership development specialist, 4-H Youth, at The Pennsylvania State University, who announced the award selections, said they were judged on the basis of project work, leadership ability, and participation in county and state activities. The winners were picked from among the 215,000 4-H members who annually take part in the Extension Service youth edr'-ation Thomasville 4-H Club The Thomasville 4-H Club met on September 24, 1974 at the 4-H Center. Pledges were led by Tammy Barnhart and Todd Sterner. Songs were led by Jeff Roth, Nancy Kulynych and Christine Kulynych. Roll call was answered by the member’s favorite kind of 4-H cookie. Tim Eisenhart reported on his trip to Massachusetts where the 4-H cookies are made. New officers for the club were elected. They are: President - Gary Welsh, Vice-President - Tim Eisenhart, Secretary - Jonathan Myers, Ass’t Secretary - Katherine Uhl, Treasurer Bonnie Wire, Ass’t Treasurer - Jack Parr, News Reporter - Paul Myecs 111, Ass’t News Reporter - Carl Anderson 111, Song Leader - Tammy Barnhart, Ass’t Song Leader - Joanne Haskins,. Game Leader - Christine Kulynych, Ass’t. Game Leader - Tommy Welsh. The club will have an exhibit for National 4-H Gob Week Oct. 6 ta 12 at the Lincolnway office of the Southern Pennsylvania National Bank. Members will be selling cookies September 30 to November 15. Hort Club The York County 4-H Horticulture Gub held their September meeting recently at the York County 4-H Center at 7:30 p.m. The club had a short business meeting including discussion on flower arrangements for the York County 4-H Achievement Night in Oc tober, upcoming 4-H Hor ticulture programs, and problems in the county dealing with Horticulture. The program followed which was conducted by Miss Christi Shermeyer, a Davidsburg 4-H member, on how to make and properly take care of terrariums. All the people in attendance found the program to be interesting and educational. The next Horticulture meeting will be on October 21,1974 at the 4-H Center and the program will be “How to get your garden ready for Winter and “Making dried flower arrangements.” Holly Scheib Agriculture The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Scheib, Holly is a freshman at Kutztown State College. She has been a 4-H member eight years. A member of the Tri- Community 4-H Gub, Holly served as president, vice president, secretary, news reporter, song leader, and game leader. She also was secretary of the Chester County 4-H Council and assisted with club activities and events as a teen leader the past three years. The commodity marketing contest winner completed projects in dairy, sheep, goat, clothing, gardening, teen leadership, bicycle, tractor maintenance, handyman, nutrition, veterinary science, and entomology. Active in local 4-H events, she participated in the roundup, dress revue, picnic, and officers training. Holly also took part in the District and State 4-H Dairy Show, Regional 4-H Teen Leaders Retreat, Regional 4- H Demonstration Day, Pennsylvania 4-H Leader ship Congress, State 4-H Days, State 4-H Leader Training Camp, Penn sylvania Association of Farmer Cooperatives Summer Youth Institute, and Northeast Regional Sheep The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene F. The state contest winner completed projects in sheep, bicycle, teen leadership, flowers, gardening, geology, forestry, wildlife conservation, photography, and rabbits. A member of the Northern Chester County 4-H Horse Club and the Marshatton 4-H Community Club, she served as vice president and news reporter and was secretary of the Chester County 4-H Council. She also served as a teen leader the past year. The state photography contest winner completed projects in several units of photography, dog care and training, horse, veterinary science, health, and teen leadership. She took part in the County 4-H Roundup, Regional 4-H Teen Leaders Retreat, State 4-H Leader Training Camp, State 4-H Days, State 4-H Horse Show, Pennsylvania Association of Farmer Cooperatives Summer Youth Institute, and the American Institute of Cooperation. Elizabeth received the “I Dare You” 4-H Award; was the Outstanding Girl Leader at the PAFC Summer Youth Institute; and won the Outstanding Achievement Award in Junior 4-H Club Work. “4-H participation has given me an opportunity to sample top-notch leadership and take part in various communications exercises,” she said.
