County Youths In Horse Show Lancaster County 4-H Horse Club members nearly made a clean sweep of events Saturday at the District 4rH Horse Show at the Rygate Show Grounds near Carlisle. Out of 54 placing! for eligibility to the state show on Nov. 14 at the Farm Show Building in Harrisburg, 16 Lancaster County 4-H’ers captured 21 berths. Debra Heidig, 2137 Old Philadelphia Pike, led all contestants by placing first in ■ grooming and showmanship senior division., open trail and western riding contest. The machine was a Field Queen rear dump forage harvester. The Soviet judges awarded the gold medal on the basis of the machines Lancaster Farming. Saturday. Sept. 21,1974 H. Benjamin Rigdon of Jarrettsville, a coach and older brother of John. Archer, John Rigdon and Miss McGuirk placed first, second and fourth, respectively, in individual competition. The team placed first in both sheep and beef cattle and third in swine judging, one of the strongest showings even given in the state contest. Coach Clark is a county Extension 4-H and youth agent. Machine Gets Soviet Medal functional design, overall appearance and versatility. Ceres International, the trade company which displayed the Hesston Corp. and Field Queen Division equipment, won a gold medal for the best machinery display. Two other gold medals were awarded in other categories. The medal for the rear dump was relayed to President Lyle Yost from Ceres. Yost presented the medal to Field Queen Division Manager Bernard Wells at the July 24 Board of Directors meeting. Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev was among the trade fair visitors who in spected the machine. As a result of the Moscow display, a delegation of Soviet officials was scheduled to travel to Kansas to negotiate a ten year agreement on Hesston and Field Queen Equipment. 49
