I Farm Women I Societies Society 1 Farm Women Society 1 met last Saturday at the home of Mrs. Franklin Weber, Lititz RD2. Twenty members and guests attended. Mrs. Paul Kurti, society president, conducted the business meeting. During the meeting, members voted to donate $lO to the Needlework Guild and $25 to Goodwill Industries. Mrs. Aaron H. Denlinger, county president, installed two new members into Society 1. They were: Mrs. Lloyd Sheaffer and Miss Anna Kolb. Mrs. Kurtz announced that the County Convention will be held Nov. 3 at the Lancaster Bible College. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Mrs. Mark Hatfield will be the speaker. Society 1 members are asked to bring articles for the bazaar table. Society members were asked to help the Mental Retardation Association at Janet Ave., Lancaster from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 1,2, 3. The following women are assisting with the Meals on Wheels program in Lititz: Mrs. John Newcomer, Mrs. Graybill Hollinger, Mrs. Franklin Weber and Mrs. Paul Kurtz. The Christmas Decorations and Food Demonstration meeting, open to the public, will be held at the Farm and Home Center on Thursday, Nov. 15. The Christmas decorating program will be held at 10:15 a.m. and the Foods for Holiday Entertaining demonstration will be presented at 2 p.m. by Gray Zellers. The day’s programs will be repeated at 7:30p.m. Society 1 will sponsor a bazaar table at the meeting. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Graybill Hollinger, 870 Clay Road, Lititz. There were 18 members and one visitor present. Mrs. Ruth Waltz presented the devotions and Mrs. Elsie Witmer had charge of the program. The speaker was Mrs. Olive Peters of East Petersburg who talked on retarded children and urged the members to attend a play to be given at the Fulton Theater Dec. 11 through 15 for the benefit of LARC. The title of the play is “Flowers for Algernon”. A donation was given to Goodwill Industries, Lancaster. The group will have a bake sale Friday, Oct. 26 at the Manheim Shopping Center. Refreshments were served. Mrs. Anna Capwell was hostess and Mrs. Luella Low was co hostess. Society 10 Farm Women Society 10 met in the home of Mrs. John Habecker, 2301 Spring Valley Road, recently. Mrs. Jacob Evans presented devotions. Members showed a piece of antique glass, giving origin and history. A new slate of officers was elected at a meeting of the Society in the home of Mrs. John Esbenshade, 1740 New Holland Pike. Mrs. Jay Habecker was elected president; Mrs. Cyrus Neff first vice-president; Mrs. Morris Miller, second vice president; Mrs. Jacob Evans, secretary; Mrs. Abram Miller, assistant secretary; Miss Ida Kunkle, corresponding secretary. Mrs. Frank Hodecker will continue as treasurer. Mrs. Cyrus Neff presented devotional readings. Each member told of an unusual remembrance of school days. A donation was given to United Way. Plans were finalized for a day of mending at the General Hospital. Gifts were approved for LARC and the Arthritis Foun dation. Main program event was a variety auction, an annual event featuring plants, handwork, cakes, jellies, white elephants and other miscellaneous items. Mrs. Loretta Shank was auc tioneer. The next meeting will be held in the Refton Fire Hall at 1:30 p.m. November 10. Mrs. Clifford Shoemaker, Mrs. Charles Shertz and Miss Ida Kunkle will be hostesses. The program will be on safety and will also include quoting a verse suited to the season. Motto for the day will be “Giving Thanks is a course from which we never graduate” in keeping with the November Thanksgiving season. Society 14 Farm Women Society 14 members and friends took a bus trip Wednesday, October 10, to Fort McHenry. The trip was in place of the regular meeting. (Continued On Page 28) 27
