Local Crops—Good, But Could Have Been Better "The corn crop throughout the county is not going to be quite as good as it was last year. We were looking forward to a better than average year, but the extreme heat in August, about 10 or 11 days of it, matured the crop much too soon," according to associate county agent Arnold Lueck. Lueck also noted that corn borer has been about as big a problem as it’s ever been. Severe lodging in some parts of the county is expected to hamper harvest efforts. The county’s soybean harvest will no doubt increase this year, Lueck said, but only because more acres were planted. The hot weather which hurt the corn crop also made inroads on soybeans. "The beans just didn’t size up the way they should have for an exceptional crop," Lueck commented. As to whether or not beans will stay in the county this year or ATTENTION MR.
