The ballots farmers will use to elect three regular members and two alternates to ASC community committees will be mailed out about November 19. A special effort is being made to make sure every eligible voter in the county com- receives a ballot. “We would like farmers to ’voice their choice’ for good committeemen candidates who will effectively serve all the farmers in their community without regard to race, color, creed, sex, or national origin. For more than 35 years, the farmer elected ASC committee system has functioned under democratic principles. These grassroot committees are comprised of, function for, and are run by farmers who live and work in the area,” Mr. Seldomridge said. The period set for nomination by-petition of ASC community committeemen begins October 4 and runs approximately 5 weeks. All petitions must be filed at the county office by close of business October 29. Procedures for nominating a candidate are simple: (1) One nominee to a petition; (2) Candidate must certify that he will serve if elected; (3) Three signatures of eligible farm voters are required on the petition. (4) Petitions must be in the county ASCS office on October 29. There is no limit on the number of petitions farmers may sign One county ASC com mitteeman and two alternates will be elected for a three year term by a county convention Community committeemen elected on December 3 will be delegates eligible to vote for county committeemen at the county convention to be held on December 17 at 10:00 a.m , Farm & Home Center. The county ASC committee is composed of three members with two alternates. From the three committee members, a chairman and vice-chairman will be chosen by the convention. Officials elected will take office January l, 1974, and serve for one year. Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 6,1973 Twin Valley To Host Annual Pumpkin Contest The Twin Valley FFA Chapter will host the third annual pum pkin growing contest on Friday, October 19 at 7 p.m. in the High School gym. Members of the FFA will judge all of the pumpkins except for the most unusually shaped category which will be judged by Mrs. Holly Clevely, a social science teacher at the High School. The FFA distributed 900 seed packets to elementary pupils from kindergarten through fifth grade in the district last spring. With the seeds they gave out instructions on raising pumpkins and rules to the contest. On the night of the contest participants are asked to take their pumpkins to the gym nasium at 7 p.m. While the en tries are being weighed and measured by FFA members the film “Son of Paleface” will be shown to elementary pupils and their parents in the auditorium. Monetary prizes and trophies will be awarded.
