Beechdale Farms Simmentals Grand Champions A son and daughter of the Great Galant bull walked away with grand champion bull and grand champion female honors at the 1973 Allentown Fair and Livestock Exposition. by Beechdale Sim mental Farms and exhibited by Dr. Tom Conrad, the grand champion bull was a three quarter Simmental - one-quarter Hereford originally entered in the Junior calf competition. Ac cording to the judge, the calf, not yet weaned, showed excellent muscling and size. Estimated adjusted weaning weight of the calf was 720 pounds. The champion female, also owned by Beechdale Farms of Bird-in-Hand, was originally entered as a jr yearling. Born February 8, 1972, this heifer, a three-quarter Simmental and one-quarter Shorthorn had an adjusted weaning weight of 698 pounds. Beechdale Farms, which also took first place ribbons in the summer yearling and female junior calf divisions, has been - acquiring a high-quality foun dation herd of percentage Sim mentals from the best available females in the United States. Currently Simmentals are much in demand by cattlemen anxious to establish foundation herds of this Swiss Breed Though they are used as dual purpose cattle in Switzerland, the American Simmental is being developed for beef purposes Conrad claims that Simmentals have a definite economic superiority over the traditional breeds heretofore popular in the United States. Dr Conrad is currently un decided as to whether to offer the champion bull for sale or to steer him for use as a 4-H steer Ebersole’s Complete Leadership School Mr and Mrs Raymond Ebersole of Manheim RD3 have just completed the Conklin Leadership Preparation School in Minneapolis at the Sheraton Ritz Hotel They have been awarded the position of Distributor in the Conklin organization 31
