—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 11, 1973 32 Morgan Horse This year’s Mid-Atlantic Morgan Horse Show promises to be the biggest in its 18 year history. Over 460 horses are due to arrive at the Devon Horse Show Grounds in Devon to compete in the three day affair scheduled for August 16, 17 and 18. They will be coming from 15 states as far away as New Hampshire, lowa and Florida. A total of $5,000 in prizes will be awarded This is in sharp contrast to the first show that was held in Frederick, Md. in 1959. Only 40 horses were entered - most of which came from neighboring states. During succeeding years the Mid-Atlantic Morgan Horse Show slowly grew in size. In 1960 it was moved to Quentin, and in 1969 came to Devon. Since then the number of entries has zoomed. “A major factor in the growth has been the increasing popularity of the Morgan horse,” says Dr. Albert A. Lucine, Jr., president of the Mid-Atlantic Morgan Horse Club. An American phenomena, this stately animal is the first native breed, dating back to 1789 when he originated through genetic mutation rather than selective breeding. His versatility, stamina and gentleness have made him a favorite with both riders and exhibitors. Morgans have strong supple bodies, a spring step, and an air of pride that sets them apart from other breeds. During the forthcoming show in Devon, they will demonstrate their versatility by participating m riding, driving and jumping competitions. 106 different events are planned including western, English, harness, roadster, and jumping classes. The grand climax will be the colorful Cavalcade Americana. This is a parade of antique buggies with drivers and passengers dressed in authentic historic costumes. The Mid-Atlantic Morgan Horse Club, which sponsors the Show, also holds a yearly cross country trail ride, and conducts clinics on training, grooming and BACKHOES and Poylooders FOR SALE Cat 9228 Loader Terex Articulated loader Michigan 125 Payloader Case W 9 payloader Lorain payloader (3) Case 1537 Uniloaders (2) Case 1530 Uniloaders Melroe 600 bobcat (2) Melroe 500 bobcats 2 Owattona Mustang Universal Uniloader Case 580 CK loader Backhoe (150 hours) 2-Case 580 CK loader Backhoe 2-Case 530 CK loader Backhoe Case 680 CK loader Ford 4500 loader Backhoe Ford 3400 loader Backhoe 2 Huber Maintainers M.F. 2200 loader backhoe 2-Parson loader backhoe more arriving daily WENGER’S FARM MACHINERY, INC.
