March 10. 1973 42 Members, Parents Recognized At Twin Valley FFA Banquet The Twin Valley FFA Chapter held its eight annual Parent- Member Banquet Friday evening, March 2, in the Elverson Fire Hall. The Banquet, which was attended by about 200 per sons, began with the official FFA opening ceremonies conducted by Twin Valley officers, led by president Nevin Mast. Chaplain Melvin Houck offered the in vocation after the opening ceremonies. The family style meal was served by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Hall. Following the meal president Mast welcomed everyone to the banquet and introduced the following special guests: William Stremba, president of the Twin Valley School Board; Joseph Beiler, Mahlon Kurtz, John Mohl, James Runyon and Walter Schuler, school board members; Francis B. Wood, assistant Twin Valley superintendent and High School principal; Robert Moyer, assistant High School principal; Kenneth Kurtz, assistant High School principal, Joseph Lin nedecker. District Game Protector; Glenn Shirk, assistant Chester County Extension agent, and representatives of Northern Lebanon, Owen J. Robert, Governor Mifflin, Conrad Weiser, Brandywine, and Kutztown FFA Chapters Levi Mast and Mahlon Kurtz were received into the Chapter as Honorary members Mr. Mast is the father of Twin Valley president Nevin Mast and Mr. Kurtz is the father of former reporter Rich Kurtz. Both men received the degree as a result of the aid and encouragement they gave their sons in attaining the Keystone Farmer degree. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to Mr. and Mrs Robert Kirk, owners of Tobi-Hill Farm, Mr and Mrs. Andrew D. Stoltzfus, owners of Caernarvon Farms, and Kenneth Kurtz, assistant High School principal. Mr and Mrs. Kirk have allowed the Chapter to use their wagons and tractors for floats in local parades, have provided jobs forj FFA members, served as a stop ( for the In-Service Day Farm Tour for teachers and provided lunch for the participants, and serve as resource persons for members interested in beef farming and corn production. Mr. and Mrs. Stoltzfus served as a stop for the In-Service Day Farm tour, and have given much assistance to president Mast. Mr. Kurtz is the newest of the High School administrators and has given much support at the High School. State FFA president Nelson Martin gave greetings from the State Association, followed by the FFA Chorus singing “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Home on the Farm” and “This Land is Your Land”. FFA member John McNeill served, as pianist for the group composed of seven FFA members—Nevin Mast, Terry Murray, Ron Smoker, Melvin Houck, Libby Miller, Lloyd Simmers and Robert Stoltzfus. FFA officers introduced their parents and Terry Murray, vice president, recognized thosk; persons who helped the Chapter during the past year: Mr. and Mrs. John Smoker, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gabel, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Houck, Clyde Spotts, Gary Stoltzfus, Clair Smoker, Mrs. Holly Clevely, Kathy Redcay, and Mrs. Renee Frederick. Chapter advisor Ronald Frederick presented awards to FFA members. Larry Stoltzfus, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Stoltzfus, Elverson RDI, received the Star Chapter Greenhand award as well as a Foundation medal for Chapter scholarship and a pin for par ticipating m the State FFA band. Nevin Mast received the Star Chapter Farmer award and Foundation medals for crop production, placement in agricultural production, and public speaking. Thomas Beiler received the Foundation medal for Star Chapter Agri-businessman. Foundation medals were presented to Lloyd Simmers for crop farming and livestock farming Glenn Vickers and Ronald Smoker also received foundation awards for livestock farming. Terry Murray received dairy farming and Soil and Water Conservation awards. The fish and wildlife management award went to Robert Evans. The Foundation medal for agricultural mechanics was presented to Geoffrey Fultz. The ornamental horticulture awards went to Harold Steve and Stanley Stankiewicz, and William Ford received an award for Chapter scholarship. Libby Miller was presented with a pin for par ticipating in the State FFA band. Richard Kurtz and Nevin Mast were presented with the gold charms of a Keystone Farmer and trophies signifying their elevation to this degree. Melvin Houck and Ronald Dannecker were each presented with a $25 Savings Bond for being tied for high salesmen in the citrus sale. Nevin Mast, Terry Murray and William Ford narrated slides of various Chapter activities held throughout the year.
