Champion Breeding Sheep A number of sheep breeders who won championships at previous Farm Shows continued their winning ways at the 57th Farm Show. Hampshire The champion ram was exhibited by Garden Heights Hampshires, of Dauphin RDI, Dauphin County. Reserve champion ewe and champion ram was shown by Marc Paden Golsmith, of Methodist Road, Greenville, Mercer County, a former Farm Show winner. Seems some of my letters are sure to chase business away. Rather than worry, I should think they would be rejoicing at my down fall. Anyhow their concern is gratifying and appreciated. No earth shaking revelations this time, only a declaration of intent. The object of these letters is to get people to think fori themselves. For too long, farmers have been subjected to claims and coun terclaims about the miracles they will receive by buying this feed or that. 1 don't believe there are any miracles in feeding livestock. Any improvements from one feed over another are measured in fractions, not hundred weights. This’-'is->not to say that, improvements shouldn't be sought, but let's not get carried away. It is better to increase milk production gradually until retirement than to try for big records and fail. Maybe you have something on your mind about feeding livestock? Phone 786-2500 SINCE 1870 winnings, Erdenheim Farms, of Lafayette Hill, Montgomery County, captured all cham pionships in both ram and ewe judging competition. This marks the eighth consecutive year that they have exhibited champions. Peggy McCrumb, of Mars, Butler County, won the cham pionship in ram classes. Reserve champion ram was exhibited by David Harpster, of Boalsburg, Centre County. Harpster also showed the reserve champion ewe. The campion ewe was exhibited by Teddy Van Wagner, of Dauphin, Dauphin County. Micar Farm, Stewartstown, FEED LETTER Southdown Shropshire RDI, York County, exhibited the champion ram. Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Harpster, of Boalsburg, Centre County, showed the champion ewe and reserve champion ram. Kenneth T. Moore, of Nichols RD2, N.Y., Bradford County, exhibited the reserve champion ewe. Suffolk The champion ram was shown by Mrs. Milton K. Morgan, of New Holland Pike, Lancaster. Champion and reserve champion ram, and reserve champion ewe were exhibited by E. Richard Eberts, of New Holland Pike, Lancaster. Rambouillet Kenneth T. Moore, Nichols RD2, N.Y., Bradford County, swept all championships in Rambouillet competition. He won the grand champion and reserve grand champion in both ewe and ram judging. Corriedale Emil Mellott and Son, Need more, Fulton County, won three championships in Corriedale competition. Mellott entries won the ram and ewe titles as well as the reserve champion ewe. Jackie Fetterolf, of Centra Hall RDI, Centre County, captured the reserve champion ram honor. Dorset Eugenia Lee Harpster, Boalsburg, Centre County, won the champion ram title in Dorset competition. The champion ewe was shown by J. Thomas Van Wagner, of Dauphin RDI. Harry P. Sigler and Sons, York RDS, showed the reserve champion ram, and Dr. and Mrs. Robert D. Herr, Narvon RD2, exhibited the reserve champion ewe. Merino Rober f E. Calvert, Spraggs RDI, Greene County, swept all championships in Merino judging. This includes champion ram and ewe and reserve r champion ram and ewe. 4-H Coimty Council Invites New Memliers The Lancaster County 4-H County Council held its meeting at the Farm and Home Center. The Council is currently having a sale of peanut crunch candy. Any 4-H’er interested in becoming a member of County Council, come to the next meeting at 7:30 p.m. January 25 at Overlook Roller Skating rink. The rink will be open for skating until 10 p.m. Bring a friend - the more the merrier! Stabler, Harrisburg contractor, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Dauphin Deposit Trust Company, announced E. M. Green, Chairman of the Board. Stabler, a resident of Stray Wind Farms, 4001 Mclntosh Road, Harrisburg, holds both 6.5. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University. He currently serves as president and board chairman of Stabler Construction Com pany, Protection Service, Inc., State Aggregates, Inc., and DBS Transit Company, all of Harrisburg. Listed in Who’s Who in the East, Stabler is past president of January Clean Sweep the Lehigh University Alumni Association, and the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors.
