The garment and findings then take on durable press characteristics. This means that the process can be used, not only by the in dustry, but also by home sewers. ALMI is prepared to install equipment in neighborhood stores to service the home sewing market. And small retail apparel stores will have these reaction chambers for the new durable press process. Mrs, Wilson says the process already has undergone extensive testing which shows that a garment treated with Ameriset retains its durable press characteristics through a minimum of 20 machine washings and tumble dryings. Deer licensing Change A recent amendment to the Game Law will result in a significant change in plans for issuance of 1972 anterless deer licenses in Pennsylvania. At the June meeting of the Pennsylvania Game Com mission, new rules and regulations, directions and guidelines for issuance of an terless deere licenses were adopted. Under the program, half of each county’s allocation of antlerless licenses were ear marked for residents of the county and the other half of the licenses were designated for non county residents. Under provisions of Act No. 170, passed by the state Legislature July 1 and signed by the Governor July 6, all an tlerless deer licenses “shall be issued without restriction or regard to the county residence of the Pennsylvania applicant ” The amendment, which was tacked onto a bill to increase resident hunting license fees, in effect cancels the Game Com mission’s plans to issue an tlerless licenses under a setup designed to produce a more equitable distribution of the licenses. The Game Law change does not alter the Commission’s regulation which provides one official antlerless deer license application form with each hunting license and only one antlerless license per hunter. July 22.1972 VEE Warning Issued Southwestern horse owners should be on the alert for an in vasion of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis (VEE) from Mexico, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) warns. Recent news reports from Mexico indicate hundreds of horses have died from VEE. “VEE characteristically jumps long distances," Dr. E.E. Saulmon, deputy Administer of jAPHIS explained, “and although ■Mexico is trying to stop the disease through mtensive vac cination efforts, we should be ready for it with a solid barrier of vaccinated horses.” Signs of VEE in horses, which should be reported to a veterinarian, range from fever, loss of appetite and depression, to blindness, stumbling gait and contiuous circling. The disease causes mild to severe flu-like illness in humans. Movement of VEE is related to transportation of horses and to bites of mosquitoes that transmit infection from horse to horse and to man. Dead horses cannot contribute to disease spread, but sick horse develop high levels of VEE virus in the bloodstream shortly after becoming infected. The disease first reached this country in late June 1971 from Mexico and was the cause of a mass vaccination campaign in Texas and 18 other States. APHIS officials note that tens of thousands of new foals have been bom since last year’s emergency vaccination cam paign. New foals and other horses not already vaccinated should be. Foals vaccinated in 1971 before 6 months of age should be re vaccinated to assure immunity.
