World Hereford Council The World Hereford Council has made a historic move to endorse programs to gather performance information on white face cattle world-wide-to insure the breed’s universal leadership in the efficient production of quality beef. Member associations and societies from all the beef producing countries of the free world and the communist world unanimously adopted a resolution at the sixth World Hereford Conference in South Africa’s famed Kruger National Park calling for intensified ef forts to identify genetically superior breeding animals in the . traits of greatest economic im portance. This action by delegates of the World Hereford Council to assemble in a different country every four years was generally regarded as a “significant milestone” since the inception in 1951 of the world-wide group of National Hereford and Polled Hereford registration organizations. The historic resolution was forthcoming after a presentation by Orville K. Sweet, executive secretary of the American Polled Hereford Association with headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., who suggested that the World Hereford Conference become a “forum for the MAKE BROWN & REA, INC. Sweet offered the concept that traditional ancestral pedigree registration certificates such as are issued by all World Hereford Council member associations could be “more meaningful and more useful” by indicating the animal’s performance record. Sweet noted that the “master breeders” of Herefords in the past did not use this method because they did not have the technology available to them that exists in this day. But, he declared, that famous breeders of the past such as England’s Captain de Quincey and America’s Gudgell and Simpson would have used it, adding “our successors will use it, and so will our competition use it.” Some 700 Hereford and Polled Hereford breeders and en- thusiasts from all over the world attended this sixth World Hereford Conference in South Africa making this the largest influx of foreign visitors for any meeting in South Africa’s history.
