Furia Jr, as the Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator for Region 111, with headquarters in Philadelphia, was announced recently by William D. Ruckelshaus, EPA Ad ministrator. Furia, 29, Philadelphia, is a lawyer and city planner specializing in environmental problems. (Pond Road) Phone 768-3670 Furia has been a Consultant to the Earth Week Congress, a consortium of universities, scientific institutes, en vironmental groups and businessmen; and the University City Science Center, a non-profit institution in Philadelphia representing 24 universities. Furia also served as director of the first Earth Week in Philadelphia from December 1969 to May 1970. The Earth Week Technical Symposia held in connection with this event provided the data and opinions for a book entitled “The Delaware Valley Environment: Status and Prospect.” Furia has served as a delegate to numerous international and /lational conferences on the environment. He did copywriting, market and communications research for Smith, Kline, and French Laboratories from 1963 to 1965 and was president of a market research and advertising agency in Aspen, Colorado, from 1965 to 1967. He was graduated cum laude from the University of Penn sylvania 1963, where he served as President of his class. Furia obtained a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in May 1969, and a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from the University of Pennsylvania in December 1969. Furia and his wife, Joan, live in Center City Philadelphia. As administrator of Region 111, Furia will be responsible for all EPA programs in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The new appointment brings to nine the number of EPA Regional Administrators announced so far. The other Regional Ad ministrators previously an nounced are Francis T, Mayo, Region 5, with headquarters in Chicago; John McGlennon, Region 1, Boston;' Jerome H. Svore, Region 7, Kansas City, Missouri; Gerald M. Hansler, Region 2, New York City; John A. Green, Region 8, Denver; Jack E. Ravan, Region 4, Atlanta; Paul DeFalco Jr, Region 9, San Francisco; and James L. Agee, Region 10 Seattle.
