Photo Pequea Valley Parent-Son Banquet Held The 12th Annual Parent and Son Banquet of the Pequea Val ley Chapter of the FFA was held last Friday evening, at the High School with the following recognition awards given- Star Green Hand, Steve Hershey; Star Chapter Farmer, Barry Nickel, Red Rose Degree (coun ty), Wayne Yost and Keystone Fanner, Bany Nickel. In other award presentations, Vo-Ag Teacher, Ralph Horchler gave the livestock-award to Bob Wanner; Ag. Mechanics, Ross Wanner; Poultry, Jay Smoker; Ag Business, Barry Nickel; Public Speaking, Bob Wanner; Dairy, Wayne Yost, and Farm Safety, Paul Claik Mike Houck received the Seais Gilt Award and Wendel Ranck leceived the first heifer calf m the chain award staited this year. The swollen, arthritic-looking growth on a rose bush is called crown gall It is caused by a bacterial infection The hand-crocheted bag the crocheting is done by nature actually contains worms which hatch out in spring and begin devouring evergreens. Negley advises picking the bag woims by hand since they do not hatch until late spung. If hag worms are not remov ed by hand, the evergreens will have to be sprayed when the woims emerge from the bags, Finley says Otherwise the ever greens will eventually die The crown gall and bag worm conditions were demon strated at the Pennsylvania De partment of Agriculture’s dis play at the Builders’ Show.
