Banquet Lancaster County’s “Out standing Young Farmer” of 1958 will be honored Janu ary 6, 1959, at the banquet sponsored by Lancaster Coun ty Junior Chambers of Com merce. Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculutre W L. Henning, will be guest speaker for the Award Dinner, scheduled for the Blue Ball Fire Hall. A panel of judges will select the county’s top young ag riculturist for recognition in the JayCee program. The public is invited and tickets are now available from members of the Lancas ter, Strasburg and New Hol land Chapters of the Jay cess, local sponsors of the event which selects a candi date for state and national honors. Janice’s exhibit in compe tition conducted in the Stras burg Fire Hall was awarded a perfect ten-points. Her ov erall project again led the field with 98 of a possible 100 points. The Cocalico students mark topped a tightly bunched group of exhibits with the sixth place entry edged by a meager 1% points. J. David Lapp, 17-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John B Lapp, Bareville ED 1, was runnerup in both division with an overall score of 97.8 and an exhibit scoring 9 5. Mary E. Hess, Manheim ED 3, placed third m the exhibit class, while Roger Stoner, 1051 Eden Ed, Lan caster, placed third overall, with the 8 5 score in exhib it. Nationally the Exposition Sheep Show ranks in second place For the first time m an eastern contest, the USDA developed, “Columbia” breed was entered. One of the all-time major Southdown breed competitions was included, in the 1958 Official South down Show. Only 15 lots of 71,250 broilers, with a price range of 15.1 to 16.5 were included. There also were 15 lots of 15,500 capettes sold, with a price range of 16 1 to 20.3.
