Is it nice and ■ bright and clean each evening, filled with fresh clean ■ water, ready to go the next day? Or is it so coated ■ and scummy that you can hardly see what it’s made ■ of? This practice is efficient man agement for full utilization of the forage growth Rotating the herd from one area to another is a good practice to permit recovery o f grazed plants, this is especially true of ladino clover and birdsfoot tre foil pastures This period of 10 days to two weeks permits the grasses and legumes to get suff ficient growth to provide a sec ond period of lush pasture REGULAR CLIPPING of pas tures during the grazing season should be done faithfully in order to obtain maximum results. After the area has been grazed, mow ing will cut off mature plants and encourage new growth, this prac tice will stop weed formation, end improve the general appear ance of the field. The proper time to clip a pas ture is following the grazing period, or after the grasses have gone to seed, during the past week many pastures in Lancaster County including bluegrass and orchard grass plants have shot seed ahead and should be mowed in the near future The clipping height should not be different than in a regular mowing operation If the pasture has gotten ahead of the herd in (he past month, and there is con siderable growth on the area, then it is advisable to remove this excess grass for hay or sil- Mt.
