GEHMAN, DENVER, PA. - AN 7-4461 CCC Keeping Bushel Basis In ’5B Operations The US Department of Agri culture’s Commodity Stabiliza tion Service said today that it will not shift fiom the bushel to the hundredweight measure in handling next year’s Commodity Credit Corporation operations, but that study and discussion of the desirability of making tho change at a later date will be continued The possible use of the hun dredweight measure atr the be ginning of the 1958 marketing year as the basis for CCC price support loans, warehouse handl ing and storage charges, sales, and related activities has been under current consideration The proposal was discussed with gram trade and farm organization rep resentatives at a special meeting in Washington Sept 25 It was also considered at a national con ference of State commissioners and directors of agriculture early this week *' After this discussion, it was de cided that it would be advisable to make further determinations regarding both the advantages and the difficulties in the pro posed change before undertak ing the shift. Among factors con sidered were the need to be cer tain that all concerned with grain handling, from producers to ulti mate users, had full opportunity to undei stand just how they would be affected; the minimum timelag required for both CCC and the trade to revise regula tions and procedures, and the possible need for legislative re vision of laws regarding grain handling in some States 3rd Annual Cerebral Palsy Auction Saturday, Oct. 12 beginning at 12 noon at Lampeter Sales Barn Lampeter, Pa.
