Cold chicks won’t eat and drink properly. The average electric brooder will take are of a maximum of 250 chicks Same goes for gas and oil brooders Perhaps 300 chicks could be put around a coal stove So far as I know there is no such thing as a 500 or 1000 chick sire brooder that will do a good job on chicks up to 8 weeks of age This is in spite of what the > manufacturer says about them Babcock’s 1357 literature tells you how to rear your chicks and how to feed your layers Also it describes Bab cock Bessies - America’s Really Fine Commercial Egg Pro ducers For catalog and pries write Babcock Poultry Farm, Inc. In the 30 day outlook, the Weather Bureau predicts tem peratures to average below seasonal normals over most of the nation, except for above normal in the Northwest and extreme Southeast. This marks a major reversal from Choleserol Research on Chickens May Help in Curing Heart Disease Medical specialists of the U S. Air Force have been conducting regular examinations of more than 50 middle-aged Air Force ex ecutives in connection with the part played'by diet and stress in heart disease ✓ They have found that the amount of cholesterol in the blood can be controlled by limiting the amount ot fat in the diet of some individuals but that in other in stances dieting had little effect in reducing the blood cholesterol when men weie in demanding positions and under great stress. This conforms to findings by Dr Ancel Keyes of the University of Minnesota that much of the chol esterol in the blood is made in the body and not derived from fatsun diets poultry Tests conducted at Texas A & M College have shown that feed NOTICE New Holland Pa. t* M M ■ V„<i . » JT M ’ ***>>**• ft A. \y.> V-. -■•*v ~ *»♦*-•- » < M*.*sK*s# t * * \ „ ,*- )T " „ * >^>■" I v 1* x > S*f ********** fi »\* * ' * 1 # ' w “’> 'f - ' ' - » ■ • V 7-- •; ' ;^4 X sc*zs tic a»»i FAST DRYING ONE-COAT COVERS FLOORS, DECKS ond STEPS ‘ fcctHe* pa. The greatest increase was found when hens weie confined to cages and were out of egg production. Laying hens showed much less cholesterol even though caged. It appears that the frustration of close confinement while body processes are dormant becausei they are out of egg production causes an increase in the amount of cholesterol in the blood of chickens although this is not too important in chickens because of their short life span, it follows that the caging of chickens closely lesemble's the effect of strong stress upon men It is highly possible that the benefits of further research in solving the cholesteiol problem in chickens may'be of assistance in medical research to solve the same problem for men.
