The publication, according to Mrs. O’Brien, show- cases “fiction, poetry, essays and art of the Delaware Valley.” This pub- lication offers an easy way to submit your work. Mrs. O’Brien simply submitted several poems through the publication’s website. After wait- ing some time for acceptance or rejection, her poem “Devon Drive” was chosen to be published. Ms. Main’s short story “They Don’t Mean To” will also be published in Philadelphia Stories, and she will have another story published in Southern Georgia University ‘s Clapboard House. Ms. Main described the process of being published, in this par- ticular instance, as easy. She remarked, “As far as getting published, this time it was fairly easy in that I sent the first story online on a Thurs- day and the story was accepted on a Friday morning. That is unusual and just a matter of luck--right person, right time.” Both instructors are extremely happy to have been afforded this opportunity. Mrs. O’Brien commented, “When others are given the opportunity of reading my work it’s rewarding and humbling.” Ms. Main goes on to offer some helpful advice to student writers. She points out the difficulties in getting published and to not be discour- aged when the first initial attempts fall through. She states, “While you probably do need a good dose of ego to dare to write, you have to let it go to hear the voices of your characters and to not hate yourself when you get rejected. Because rejection will happen.” Mrs. O’Brien feels similar and adds, “I have published many times, but I have been rejected many more Gmies, If I never publish again, I would still write because it’s a great joy.” Ms. Main, who serves as the Director of the Writing Center, also teaches creative writing, freshman composition, and other writing cours- es. Ms. O’Brien teaches many of the same types of courses and also contributes her skills as a tutor.
