Page 2 pr The Lion’s Eye September 23, 2009 on Campus SGA SOUNDOFF By Angela Potter - Lions Eye Staff Writer alp372@psu.edu On Monday, August 31st, the Student Government Asso- ciation hosted a sound off in the Lion’s Den inviting all students who were interested in joining or learning about their organization. President of the SGA, Brittney Walker, informed students that the SGA is an organization dedicated to enriching the campus and stu- dent life. It is a great opportunity to bring new ideas to Brandywine or simply become more involved in current activities. Students have the opportunity to become in- volved in different Student Gov- ernment committees. “Each chair (Diversity, Academic, Student Affairs, and Governmental) has the opportuni- ty to “lead” their own small group of students interested in affecting the campus based on their posi- tions. As the community service coordinator, I also have a commit- tee. Specifically I will be looking to better the sense of community service on campus. | want to look into working with non-traditional methods of service. Ultimately, we want to be mediums for the students, in an attempt to connect them with their campus, faculty/ staff, and the community around them,” said Teron Meyers, mem- ber of SGA and chair of THON on campus. | Treasurer Rahel Tekle- giorgis highlighted the SGA’s main goals which include spread- ing awareness about clubs and programs and to encourage more students to join. Also, members hope to make the campus more accessible by creating more drop boxes and introducing new ways to help students academically. . Those who participated enjoyed free food and music, and the SGA members even held a competitive dance off. After the festivities, Brittney invited the group outside for a photo to conclude a success- ful SGA sound off. Want to Start Your Own Club? It’s Easy! By Jennifer Knowlton - Lions Eye Staff Writer jak5450@psu.edu Here on the Brandywine campus there are clubs every- where! Have you been thinking about starting up your own club? Starting a club provides oppor- tunities to meet new people, ease the transition from high school to college and learn a few skills. The purpose can be an edu- cational one, or even something fun to do during common hour to relieve stress. Three students, one advisor and a purpose are required in order to launch any given club. To keep a club active, one ‘event must be held per semester along with existing meetings. When holding a meeting, make sure all participating members are aware of the meeting location and time. The officers are responsible to have an agenda and goals estab- lished for each meeting. What can you do to get your club started? Advertising is key to promote a newly found club. Posting flyers or sending e-mails to peers is a good way to start. Be careful because you can not post flyers on windows or doors. Think of a creative idea to put them like in the bathroom be- cause everyone needs to go there throughout the day. In order to establish a club it is mandatory to submit a club ~ registration form by January 4th, 2010 for a spring club in conjunc- _ tion with a club constitution. A club constitution must outline officer responsibilities, club goals, election policies and other infor- mation that pertains to the club.
