Page 10 Eye The Lion S Bye. Movie Review: Quantum of Solace By Chris Dilenno - Lion’s Eye Editor - cad5241@psu.edu Directed by Marc Foster and written through the combined efforts of Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, Quantum of Solace is a no holds barred action movie for the ridiculously unbelievable action sequence lover in all of us. It picks up mere hours after Casino Royale left off, James Bond (Daniel Craig) is now on the warpath due to the loss of, Vespers, the woman he fell in love with in the previous movie. He has captured the man whose actions had a hand in her death and through his interrogation: Bond is able to get a perspective on the levity of the circumstances he has stumbled upon. M. (Judi Dench) is constantly questioning Bonds’ intentions and is afraid that he has allowed his emotions to get in the way of his duty. This - leads to a standoff between the two and without his mother figure Bond becomes a rogue of sorts and plans to accomplish the mission in the way that he sees fit instead of the way MI6 would ask of him. Bond is involved in an extensive amount of conflict throughout the movie both internally and externally as he searches out a man named Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a manipulative man bent on controlling one of the world’s most important resources in the contested land of Bolivia. Bond is assisted by a woman named Camille (Olga Kurylen- ko) who is also out for revenge on the man who destroyed her family. Throughout the movie, the. underlying goal of Bonds’ actions is to find the man who betrayed Vespers and make him pay. First off, this movie is not as good as Casino Royale which was possibly the best Bond film ever. Daniel Craig is in full form though playing a man on the edge with revenge on his mind and Judi Dench is splendid as always. The strong acting comes mainly from those two. along with Jeffrey Wright and Mathieu Amalric. This new Bond film takes a page from the Bourne movies and adds a shaking hand technique to some of the action sequences which is supposed to add realism : December 10, 2008 on Entertainment and works in some cases but at other times seems to make the action more excessively dramatized than neccessary. The action in the movie is very farfetched in the way that it is approached, Bond is able to do things that no mortal man should ever question attempting, but it certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat if you're rooting for the dar- ing protagonist as I was. The story is captivating and interesting from corner to corner as it explores the risks of Bond allowing himself to get caught up ~ in the chaos of his work. One main drawback is the absence of gadgets that had been a major, prolific element of previous Bond films but it trudges through without them. Overall, Quantum of Solace is worth seeing if you are a fan of spy movies, dark movies or even both. With this pace, let’s hope the next films blows the first two out of the water and is not the one we deem worthy of solace.
