November 2, 2004 The Lion's Eye Eve on SPOr'ts Page 7 For basketball teams, a season to rebound By KATIE NEWS KMN151@psu.edu Lion’s Eye staff writer Dana Johnson and her women’s basketball teammates endured a lot last season. Now, they're ready for some fun. ‘I'm excited,” said Johnson, a returning starter and leading scorer from last season’s 1-19 team. “The team is a lot stronger, we are going to be better this season.” Johnson averaged 23 points a game last season as a guard. Returning alongwith her is Brooke Edwards who is a forward. : Some key freshmen to keep an eye on this year are Cara Zibbleman (point guard), Katie McBreatey (cen- ter) and Megan Peterkin (forward). “Our goal is to switch the record this season, and we’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen,” said Peterkin. Zibbleman is also excited about the new season. “It's nice to come in and play again,” said Zibbleman. “We should be pretty good this year, we've got a lot of good players.” It’s going to be a rebuilding year for the girls and their coach, Joe DiAntonio, also the Penn State Delco athletic director. Tipoff for the Lady Lions will be Nov. 11 against Delaware County Community College. DCCC beat the Lions twice last year, but this time, with some support from their fans, the girls plan on winning. The men’s team also has big plans for this season. Coach Gary Kasmer, and his father Gary Kasmer Sr.,- have big expectations. The guy's finished their season last year 4-17. With aggressive play- ers, and fair hard play, this could be a winning team. “They're real good,” Kasmer said of his players’ attitude. Returning players are Hesham Rahmi (guard/forward), Mike Johnston (forward) and Rob Harris (center). Some new players to keep an eye on are Mike Thornton, Andrew Thornton, Carlos Gonzalez, Chris Britt, Vince Taraborelli, Josh Etheridge, Barry Robinson, and Chris Robinson. Thinking about THON THON, the dance marathon in University that raises money and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer, is held in February, and the effort to raise funds on the Delco campus is already under way, with the THON Halloween Dance, which was held Friday.
