Maybe a violent and sexual revolution in the animation world. Mickey's dead, now get on with your meaningless self-rightous, pitiful lives and try to do something useful. Just the words Aeon herself would probably mutter in a low tone before lashing out with a round-house kick and leaping and flipping away. "Aeon Flux" is the latest guest on MTV’s "Oddities," a program featuring a different animation series every few months. Those who were fans of the earlier program, Liquid Television, might recognize the short, two-minute clips in which there was no dialogue, only intrigue. A somewhat censored and diluted Liquid Television form has been established as a half-hour long miniseries, airing every Tuesday night at ten. The glorified dominatrix also wears a little more clothing now that she’s moved from late-night to prime time. Peter Chung, the writer and creator of the eerie futuristic fantasy epic, uses complicated and twisted characters along with abstract animation. Although, his storylines and conflicts revolve around a relatively simple plot. Aeon Flux cleverly strives to battle her rival and lover, Trevor Goodchild, who deliberately conceives schemes to wake up his tired and dreamless world of which he rules. ‘Dead Presidents’ Rises Moviegoers To Awaken By Tim McLaughlin The Hughes brothers have once again struck it rich in Hollywood with Dead Presidents , a hair-raising mixture of action, thriller, war story, and family saga. : Dead Presidents follows the story of Anthony Curtis, a lower middle A Delco cheerleader decorates her pumpking for the pumpkin painting “| contest. Photo by Janine Furillo Trevor intends no harm to his people, and he presumes he is always correct in his attempts, no matter how futile or corrupt his policies are. The world which he watches over has fallen into an almost comatose state. No one cares anymore, nothing is done any longer, and people kill themselves with the realization and sudden disappointment of a paper cut. Will is a lost element and desire is all but eliminated. All that exists isa missionary, an agent if you will, called Aeon Flux, a woman scorned and vengeful, trying to do anything in her capacity to overthrow Trevor and have intercourse with him. Usually her attempts at either one end up in violent skirmishes involving physical combat. Chung's series is dynamic and incredibly original. He incorporates high-speed, high-definition dialogue which comes across very firmly and coherently. His characters are structured as : pieces of a grand puzzle. Each person is peculiar and sometimes nonscensical in their own framework, but symbolic and important in macro terms of our - own world. This is made clear when especially concerning governments and their relationship with the people, and leadership towards the future. Chung will most certainly have a bright future in the world of surrealistic animation. We are not in Disneyland anymore. We are in Flux. class African American from the South Bronx, played magnificently by Larenz Tate. The movie follows his life, starting as a teenage numbers runner, through his four year tour of duty in Vietnam, and on to his eventual hardships after the war. The film follows a feverish pace, beginning with a quick series of appalling and sometimes nightmarish Vietnam scenes and ending with an armored truck heist scene that would make Quentin Tarantino proud. Several supporting actors turnin some memorable performances. Keith David gives a riveting portrayal of Kirby, a local numbers runner who takes Anthony under his wing. David steals one of the movie's funniest and ironically scariest scenes when he takes off his own artificial leg and threatens to beat someone with it. Stand-up comic Chris Tucker also turns in a subtle performance as Skip, a local heroin addict. I recommend this film to anyone who believes $6.50 is a reasonable price to pay to be thoroughly entertained. If you have a PSU ID card, then price shouldn’t be a problem and you should definitely go to see this film. I strongly recommend Dead Presidents especially to those who were fans of the Hughes brothers’ first film Menace II Society. - problems,” -contest. Mount Twenty-eight year old Irish singer- songwriter and guitarist Francis Dunnery is quickly making a name for himself with his second solo project. Tall Blonde Helicopter is a quaint collection of fifteen well-written and enjoyable songs. Dunnery, through the use of his distinctive guitar playing, has managed to successfully incorporate rock, jazz, blues, and even the otherwise drab Irish folk influences into his music. In songs like “Too Much Saturn,” which Dunnery jokingly introduces as a song about “severe emotional and “In My Dreams,” which is written about his dog Colin, Dunnery’s droll sense of humor surfaces. Propels to New Heights Then there are Dunnery’s clever lyrics. He asks for the meaning of his life and his emotions in the guitar- driven “The Way Things Are.” Dunnery then wrestles with self- obsession in “The Jonny Podell Song.” Dunnery orchestrates his music with equal grace. Jazz influences ring through in the soft “Rain or Shine,” while folk influences are apparent in “Sunshine.” Dunnery plays almost every instrument at one time or another on Helicopter. “Between his interesting lyrics and - his distinctive sound, Dunnery has developed a Helicopter that is a pleasant surprise compared to the generic-sounding music that tends to crowd most air waves.
