Page 8 — LION’S EYE — September 21, 1995 ®.- SPORTS ®& ‘95 Women’s Volleyball Team Served Up as Delco’s Best Ever By John Duffy - This year’s women’s volleyball team is said to be the best women’s volleyball team that this campus has ever seen. The Lady Lion’s season started off with a rigorous two away games. The first away game was at PSU York on September 9. The score was 15 to 12. The next game was at PSU Berks (Delco 15, Berks 7). These two teams are the toughest teams that the Lady Lions have to face on their long schedule. Their record now stands at 4 and 2. The Lion's first home game will - be on September 25. On this date the PSU Delco Lady Lions will serve it up against Harcum and Manor Junior . Colleges in a winner takes all tournament. These matches will start at 6:00 pm in the gymnasium. Some of the returning players from last year are Jasmin Ferrell and Katrina Young. According to Jasmin, “This season is going to be great . I can not wait to play. “ Some of the newer faces that fans will see this season are Jennifer Elliot, Michelle Larue, Kendra Mcmillin, Elain Brown, Kristi Flore, Kim Redding, Lauren McGlennen, Suzanne Winther, Bonnie Bracken, Kati Grodin and Ebony Crews. . This great group of ladies will be coached by Raife Hidalgo, a Delco physical education teacher. Raife said, “This is a great group of kids that I have to work with. Most of them have played before , and the ones that haven't really know what they are doing.” This season is going to be filled with hard spikes, incredible digs, and some of the best competition ever. Fans are urged to come out and support the team on September 25 at 6:00 pm. PSU Soccer Team Aims High Following Season of Lows By Tim McLaughlin With the coming of the fall semester, it is time for the dawn of a new soccer season. This year the Lions hope to improve on the 1994 campaign. The Lions opened the season Saturday, September 2 at soccer power- house Gloucester County Community College. The following Saturday the Lions hosted a tournament which began at 9:00 a.m, before kickstarting their league schedule. Coach Mike Pellegrino stated that he is “optimistic about the crop of incoming freshmen and capable transfers.” Coach Pellegrino is also excited about his core of returning starters. Tom Flynn,midfielder Pat Lacey and stopper Mike Behl. This group of veterans hope to erase the memories of last year’s 3-16 season. Rawhide Rumblers Are Ready To Crack 1994's Goose Egg By John Duffy It’s baseball time again, and PSU Delco is in their second season after a one year hiatus. Last years baseball team struggled through most of the season, putting forth a record of O and 12. But this year, coach and former PSU graduate Joe Demaio is ready to take on anything. . “I think that this year we will be very successful. We have a group of good kids with some good talent.” The season started out with a double header September 9 against PSU Wilkes Barre (Delco 12, WB 12). Then on September 13 and 16 Delco played PSU Berks (Delco 11, Berks 32) as well as PSU Hazelton. (Delco 11, Hazelton 11). Today PSU Delco squares off with a hard hitting, action packed game against Penn College. This single away game and the double home game has left the PSU Lion’s record standing at 0 and 3. Pitcher Pete Renaudo said, “I hope we play well this year, but most of all I hope we have fun and win a couple games.” This year’s team consists of sixteen players : Kevin Dorian, Vince Donia, Tom Dwyer, Rich Emhoff, Bill Gagliardi, Mike Guille, Lewis Nardini, Jim Persival, Mike Pralle, Jason Mills, Pete Renaudo, Mike Rattigan, Jeff Scalli, Jeff Simpson, Lance Spear, and Jason Ward. Coach Joe Demaio is also the assistant coach of the men’s’ basketball team. The Lions have ten games to play, four home , four away and two tournaments. “Let’s hope we have a good season,” said infielder Mike Guille.
