Employment Advice Photo by: WES TOMLINSON Get E-Mail Experience Now To Enhance Your Resume Later By T. Mastricolo For those of you familiar with electronic mail, you may be interested to know that along with its other useful features, e-mail may help you gain employment after graduation. E-mail is most commonly used on this campus to communicate with students at colleges across the state and country. However, it is also the up and coming computer system that companies will be utilizing to reach people with advertising and information. Therefore, potential employers will be looking for a prospective employee’s knowledge of and experience with the Internet system, of which e-mail is a part. “It would behoove students to learn [it] now while it’s free,” Matt Bodeck of Instructional Services advises. Matt has taught several electronic mail workshops here at Pan Erb - College of Arts and Architecture, “I plan on spending the holidays quietly with my family, but I am not ruling out holiday parties with my friends.” Photo by: BOB LEWIS Delco recently. Although no more are currently being planned, Matt says he will schedule another one if enough students are interested. Anyone interested should sign up at the circulation desk in the library. “I mostly just wanted to learn e- mail so I could leave messages for some friends at U.P.,” a fifth semester student said. “But if employers think its a marketable skill, that’s fine with me.” He took one of the workshops and found Penn States e-mail system easy to use. Just consider this: when you graduate, the job market will be flooded with degree- holding candidates such as yourself. By taking a half-hour workshop now, your resume could stand out enough to give you an edge over your competition. In the present job market, the employed graduates will be the ones who realize that every little edge counts. “How Do You Plan to Celebrate the ‘Holiday Season?” Doug Franks - Education, “I plan to return to Ohio, and celebrate heavily with my family. While there I hope to hook up with old friends and party a lot.” Photo by: BOB LEWIS
