Fall Sports Wrapup: The new tennis court complex, funded by the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Foundation is targeted for completion Photo by: DIANA MICERI Soccer and Volleyball Look Ahead By Andy McIntyre After what was a sometimes disheartening but heroic fall sports season, the Penn state Delco soccer and volleyball teams must now lick their wounds, raise their heads, and stare hopefully towards the future. For even though both teams may not have done as well as they would have liked, they still deserve a hand for giving the season their best shot. For the soccer team the season may be summed up as a good effort. which just never seemed to consistently jell. Plagued by injuries and school schedules which made practice time difficult, the soccer team, coached by Alan Miller, found themselves playing against a great Football Tennis By Kaspar Stromme Fall intramurals were a mixed - bag this year. The two sports offered were tennis and flag football. Unfortunately, bad weather and little interest quickly ended the tennis program. Flag football, however attracted much more interest among deal of good competition. However, that does not mean that there weren’t outstanding efforts. Team Captain and goal keeper Matt Clark was the most consistent player on the field, giving his best between the post every game. Yet, the soccer team is young. Most of this year’s players were freshmen who will be returning again next year. So although a record of 4-10-2 may not seem very. impressive, don’t count this team out because next year they'll be back. The Penn State Delco women’s volleyball team had a similar season. With an overall record of 4-20, the small women’s team played to the best of their ability. Coached by Flourishes Tumbles students. A total of 6 teams were formed and the teams competed for a place in the final game on November 9. According to coach Barbara Rostick, there was “much enthusiasm and fun among the more than 48 guys who took part in the program.” Even though the program was open to female students also, interest was minimal. ~ Cutting Experience (Continued from Page 5) Well, I could go on and on, but since I only have a limited amount of space, and since I cut my French class to write this testament to laziness, I will now bid your farewell, and look for you next time 1 Le THE FRESMAN ZONE. (Hmmmm, I still have-an hour and a half left...... guess I'll go to the mall and buy that gun rack I was looking at.) Robert Saba, the women’s volleyball team found themselves playing against an assortment of very good competition. As with the soccer team, the volleyball team also had the problem of never seeming to consistently jell. And as in any other sport, if a team cannot jell together, problems will constantly be re-occupying. However, once again, this doesn’t mean the women didn’t play hard. It merely means that, as with soccer, scheduling practice time was very difficult due to the academic dedication of the players. Although many players would love to dedicate all of their spare time to sports when they are in college, that is simply impossible. Artin Armani, football.
