This is a NORMAL function that we as individuals perform, and thank goodness that we are individuals. The problem that seems to keep occuring is that we too often forget what our actions mean to other people, and how what we do really effects other people. You can argue that this is an exaggerated statement, and I'll agree with you—to a degree. How many of you have been exposed to the positive psychology that one person can really make a difference? One person’s hard work, determination, and perseverance can pay large dividends. This is true, and all of us will have a chance to make a difference somewhere, somehow, and in some way. Through our lack of thinking and impulsive behavior we can end up doing things that we should not, and have a negative effect on ourselves and others. Drinking and then driving is an example of such a negative difference. Ask yourself why you drink. Each of us has his or her own individual reasons. When you have come up with a reason or reasons, then ask yourself under what conditions you would drink. Would these be conditions which might have driving involved somewhere along line? HELPY, THE VICTIM Dear Victim; Now-a-days virginity is definitely “becoming a serious topic. Despite all the “peer-pressure” that we, all, have encountered; the bottom line will always be the decision of the particular individual. It is clear, in your letter that you have made up your mind about sex, “so you should stick to your decision. You should talk to your friend. You said you liked the “Dark-Side”; yet staying a virgin is important to you, - you don’t have to have sex to have a good time with people. Neither is sex needed for a good relationship. Perhaps you should evaluate your friendship with your friend; decide if being her friend means you have to compromise yourself—if so get out of that friendship. You appear to have your head on straight, so don’t compromise your morals for anyone. There’s nothing wrong with being a virgin, you are protecting yourself from many ciseases. Stand your ground! MARS Dear Mars; Since it is very obvious that she i is still holding on, you should be very honest with her. Do not be rude because this could hurt her even more then she would wind up hating you. It is sad that relationships have to end but they should at least end honestly. If being honest with her doesn’t work then perhaps being her friend is the wrong choice. Maggie Dear Maggie, I recently started seeing this girl on campus. She constantly talks about sex. This does not bother me, but when we go to parties, she hangs all over all of the guys there. Then she disappears for a while, and when she comes back, there is usually some guy following her around like a lost puppy. Do you think she is being unfaithful? Please help me. a SB RURAL 4 + Jiggum: Dear Jiggum, fu i It sounds like this girl i is not really the kind of girl a respectful guy would want to get involved with. Maybe her disappearing acts are really nothing at all, you should confront her and find out. As far as her being “unfaithful” that answer is something only she would know. If you really care enough to worry about this then talk to her. And remember to be honest with her because you want her to be honest with you. After you talk things out, hopefully there will be a chance to work things out. Good Luck! Maggie Dear Maggie, © Are school grounds an appropriate place to establish or express personal relationships? Unsi ged Dear Unsigned, | School grounds are as appropriate a place as anywhere to express one’s feelings for a loved one. The important thing is to remain tactful when expressing one’s feelings.
