Headed by lead singer and lead guitarist, Brian DiBonaventura, of our very own Penn State Delco, the band is moving closer and closer to their goal, to get signed with a large record label. The band was started in September of 1990, and is already having a lot of success. They are Magician/Comedian Booked for Delco Bob Garner is a magician, comedian, and, above all else, an entertainer. A well-designed presentation and outstanding showmanship have developed into an untouchable reputation for quality entertainment on college campuses, comedy clubs, cruise lines, and resorts across the country and abroad. On November 19,1991, everyone is welcome to see this show in the Main Lounge at 11:30 and to participate in DELCO Funnies’ third program of their series. Bob got interested in show business at the age of eight when he received his first magic kit. He dabbled and played around and performed his first show much later at the age of 13. One year later he met a magician by the name of Stuart Cramer who was a professional magician and gave this budding amateur a few tips and words of encouragement. Bob left magic briefly at the age of 17 and became interested in radio. As a senior in high school, he was on a local radio station with a music and comedy format. He also got involved in a comedy improv group called the Cleveland Comedy Company, which would later place Bob and the rest of the cast on an ABC affiliate once a month for a year. Throughout the years Bob kept his fingers in magic and his mind on comedy. At the age of 21 he, by chance, met Cramer again, which rekindled his love of magic. Cramer since retired from magic and gave Bob some of his highly guarded - YMIY GUMS TURNED KIND OF WHITE, BUBBLY - AND SORE, AND SOMETIMES THE SKIN : PEELS OFF AND BLEEDS DIPPING IS FOR DIPS. DONT USE SNUFF OR CHEWING TOBACCO. CANCER Rec A Second Glance | E by David Miller In the second issue of the Lion's Eye , we read the viewpoints of a few students, including myself, on the new English 15 and Earth Mineral Science 150 course taught by Dr. John Ousey and Dr. Sybil Severance were reported. Being in the class, I feel justified in assessing the secrets and some of his own 35 year audience tested material which Bob updated and still uses in his show today. With a broad background in comedy and a regained love of magic, “THE MAGIC AND COMEDY OF GARNER” came to life. This show has taken Bob all over America and keeps him on the road at least 10 months a year. He has performed for hundreds of thousands 'of people and has captured the interests of such comedy greats as Milton Berle, who is always willing to lend Bob a kindly ear and a few helpful insights. Bob prides himself on his up-to- date style, his ability to perform effects not normally seen, and his unique brand of comedy which involves the audience. Bob can perform for 3000 people in a major showroom and actually have the audience believing they are watching a close friend in their living room. He says, “To me, a showman is a person who can make something small, larger than life and something unbelievable- believable.” He believes you have to care about your audience. “When someone in my audience tells me they have not laughed like that in a long time- looks me in the eye and says ‘thank you’- I know I did my job.” That care is always there. The . audience knows they are seeing something special. That is what makes an entertainer. Resorts International said it the best-”Bob Garner is a superstar on the way up.” constantly playing shows in local clubs and colleges. The present line- up of the group includes Brian DiBonaventura, who does lead guitar and vocals, Rich Lucas, who plays rhythm guitar, Dave and Jerry DeJohn, who play drums and bass, and the newest member, Seamus Doherty, who also does lead vocals. The band is expecting to release a self titled album in December, which they are in the process of recording now. They will be doing various shows to support the album for the next few months. The album should be available in most record stores in the Philadelphia and Delaware County Area. Spiral Blue has recently played at . the Chestnut Cabaret, Times Square, Newman College, and Springfield mall. Upcoming events include promotional work with Sam Goddy, a show at Lasalle, near Christmas, and a show at Widener next semester. Review Prince Scores with ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ By Jamie Wismer Prince is back up to par with his new album Diamonds and Pearls. The past few albums Prince has released have not lived up to his’ “musical genius” status. However, with this new album, we see that Prince is definitely the master of popular dance music of today. “Get Off,” the first single off the album, sounds like nothing Prince has ever done before. Its strong drum sound and weird flute-like synthesizer make it very interesting to listen to. With Diamonds and Pearls , Prince once again changes the line-up of his band. They are called The New Power Generation, and they add a lot to the album. Prince has also added a rapper-Tony M. The entire album is a very tight- sounding and funky. It is the type of music you would expect from Prince. Hopefully, his experimental days are over, and he will stick to what he knows best: pop songs. Overall, the album is well- packaged with a weird hologram cover and is well worth the money spent on it. *** 15/Geo. Sci Match A Challenge progress of the course to date. I had originally thought that the class was going to be easy, but instead, the course has been fairly difficult and very challenging. This being the case, there has been much tension and frustration; but aren't challenging courses what college education is all about? In challenging courses, students (and in this case, teachers) learn something. Combining science material with various English writing styles is a refreshing approach to education, emphasizing the relationship between the two subjects. I think everyone (well, almost everyone) in my class could properly cite sources and paraphrase material in his or her sleep. However, amidst the tension and frustration, Dr. Ousey and Dr. Severance have helped tremendously, and we, as students, have grown to appreciate the challenges we've faced and skills we have learned. English 15 and Earth Mineral Science 150 is truly a “college level” course (and I'm not brown-nosing!).
