April, 1991 — LION'S EYE - Page 7 Vote Today For SGA Offices (Continued from Page 1) The best feature of Delco, according to Larry, is the ratio of teachers to students. On the other hand, he thinks ~ that the academic advising leaves a lot to be desired. Larry is also a SGA freshman representative and he is involved in SADD (Students Against Driving Drunk). Running unopposed for their offices are Dianna Cahall for Vice President, Gioia Gaudiuso for Treasurer, and Greg Branche for Secretary. Dianna Cahall is a sophomore who is majoring in ‘Education. She is a graduate of Bartram Motivation High School. Her career goal is to be a school administrator. She ° sees herself in a career that is rewarding and enjoyable in her future. Dianna Cahall Photo by: DIANA MICERI As Student Activities Commission President, Dianna has helped organize many of the events on this campus. Furthermore, she would like “to see all of the students at our campus get involved in programs, voice their opinions, and utilize their ideas.” She has also received the Lion’s Roar Award for her outstanding contribution to this campus. The Lion’s Roar is an award presented by the SGA President to someone who is an outstanding student and to someone who “roars above the crowd.” Gioia Gaudiuso, a freshman here at Delco, is an occupational therapy major. She is a graduate of the Christian Academy in Brookhaven. Her. career plans are to be an Occupational Therapist. Her idea of success and + happiness ‘is being in-a stable job and helping others. : The Alpha Omega Players Present “PLAZA SUITE" Tuesday, April 9 7:30 PM 101 Main A Great Comedy! Don’t Miss It! Gioia Gaudioso Photo by: DIANA MICERI Although she would like to see more ‘participation from the students here in all campus’ activities, she does find the academics here at Delco appealing. Gioia also believes that the current SGA is doing a fine job and the atmosphere of Delco is “friendly.” However, she does think that more women’s athletics should be offered. | Her involvement -at Delco has included ‘membership in the Nittany . Christian Fellowship and ‘she plays for Delco’s women’s basketball team. Gioia also made the Dean’s List last semester. Last, but not least, is Greg Branche, candidate for Secretary of the SGA. He is a computer science major who graduated from Swarthmore Academy. He sees himself in the future in a good - job making good money and possibly playing professional basketball. Although he thinks the student participation could use a little work, Greg thinks the best feature of Delco is smallness which enables people to become closer. He would also “like to see more things happening around campus that enhance student life.” Greg is a member of the Black Student League and he is'a member of Delco’s men’s basketball team. He also designed the t-shirt for United Nations Day last semester for which the profits of the sale went to charity. So whom will you vote for? See you at the polls! _ Greg Branche Photo by: DIANA MICERI Baseball Team Seeks To Break School Record by Kevin Rockwell Delco’s baseball team is facing a grueling 20-game season this spring with only eight of those games being played at home. Currently the team has a 3-2 record. Team captains Rob Lahrman and Keith Barry say they hope to break the school record of ten wins in one season by finishing with at least an 11-9 record. They are counting on the experience gained from last semester's unique fall season (8-13) to help break that record. : The backbone of the team is eigh returning players from the fall season. In addition, the team has two freshman stars, Mike Racchione (.389) and Chuck Banon (.414). Standouts among the returnees are second baseman Kevin Conmy (.357) and co-captain Keith Barry (455). In addition to strong hitters, the team has two standout pitchers. Joe Hoffaker has pitched four of the season’s first five games and has a 2- 1 record. Backup pitcher Scott Smith is 1-1 with one save. He had a phenomal game against Neumann College when he struck out nine batters in four innings. Delco’s best game so far this season was its 7-3 victory over Haverford College. Doug Steimol’s two-run double in the first inning gave Delco a lead they never gave up. The rout over Haverford included four stolen bases by Rob Lahrman and three by Keith Barry. Joe Hoffaker added to Haverford’s troubles by keeping them scoreless for five innings. Although the team is optimistic about this season, they are careful about getting over-optimistic. That happened last year when the team chalked up a 7-0 record early in the season during the month of March. But their record for April was 2-15. A rainy first week of April squeezed all the -month’s games into three weeks. In the last week alone, the team had to play eight games — and ended up losing them all. Looking forward to this year’s April schedule, Keith Barry commented, “We'll be a force to be reckoned with when we get our fielding together.” Celebrate The 21st Annual Earth Day April 22, 1991 (So do something fo. r the Earth!) ©9000 00QC0 0000000000000 000000000CCCS 2000000000000 00000000C00C0COCOCCOOOSOSNOTS Women's Tennis Team Gets Small Response And Cancels Season by Chuck Spector Spring is here, yet this year it didn’t bring with it Delco’s Women Varsity Tennis Team. With only four females signed up, Tiz Griffith unhappily was forced to drop the team from this year’s schedule, since there must be a minimum of at least six girls. In order for April Marshall, a would-be team member, to pick up- her racket again, she had to put aside a lot of previous bad experience with tennis, only to learn that the team had to be canceled. This was a real disappointment to her, especially since she just bought all new equipment for this spring, not to ‘mention how much her nine years of experience could have helped the team. Tiz is already looking for a better turn out for next spring, since there was not enough support from the women’s student body this year. By.
