After a recent broken leg, Paterno has no mindset of leaving or letting the injury end his college coaching career. Next month, a 79 year young Joe Paterno turns 80, bringing this to his 56%" season coaching, holding the record for any football coach at any college ot university. Paterno recently held a press tele- conference at State College to address upcoming ‘questions about Penn State’s Outback Bowl venture and his personal injury. What would come as a bigger surprise was the fact that Paterno stated, “I don’t want to walk away from it because of this little setback, I have not intended to walk away from it in the next couple years because I didn’t have any plans, and I still don’t have any plans to walk away.” After the 2008 season, JoePa’s contract will end. Paterno missed 3 of the Nittany Lion’s last home games of the 2006 season, but is expected to be in Tampa Bay for the Outback Bowl. It is undecided whether Paterno will be watching from the sidelines or press box at the moment. Unhappily, it all depends on his Photo by Ryan Kelly rehab and the doctor’s orders, but Paterno said, “I’d be disappointed if I’m not on the sideline.” At the present time Paterno is more worried about preparing his team to face the Tennessee Volunteers. He has been steadily working, reviewing tapes and coaching the squad at practice. Good luck to the Penn ‘State Nittany Lions and Joe Paterno! We look forward to seeing you victorious New Year’s Day!
