well kept secrect cont. I imugine, is the ultimate key.. Pride has always been over-emphasized in my family. In some Chinese families, to "lose" a daughter to a white man simply a fate worse than death. It isn't so much that they dislike or disrespect non-Chinese. Simply stated, it is a matter of keeping the blood pure. Though to me, my Michael is the most perfect man in the world, he is neither Chinese, nor what my parents would approve of, even if he were. You could say we're from the opposite sides of the tracks. He is significantly older than 1; five years, to be exact. While this may not sound like a large age difference, the gap lies in our lifestyles. While•l am still in college, struggling to prepare myself for the "real world",he is already working in the real world, as an auto mechanic. While this doesn't mean that he is any less intelligent or any less capable of supporting a wife and family, somehow, I'm sure my parents wouldn't see it that way. So, for now, at least, he is my little secret. Today is Valentine's Day, and as we sit on the bench, holding hands at our favorite park by the river, we discuss our plans for the evening. "I know, let's go to Atlantic City, for dinner and a show," he suggests, "That sounds nice, but expensive," I remind him. "Nothing is too expensive for you", he says. I smile at him contentedly. I know that whatever he has, be it little or much, is ours.to share, and he would give it to me in an instalit. The same is true for me, and I'm sure he knows that. I love Michael, and I know he loves me. As far as the future is concerned, we plan to marry someday, but not until my parents are gone to a place where they won't be able to witness it. It would simply hurt them too much for me to blatantly go against tradition. I don't want to see the effect of my sister's marriage happen again. It was very painful for them, and though I don't agree with their values, I can't help but pity them. It wasn't her fault; and it wasn't their fault, either. I suppose it's like an unavoidable obstacle--similar to a mountain. In this case, it's the mountain made of centuries of the traditions of an entire race of people. For now, and for tonight, I'll have to lie and decieve my parents again. Perhaps someday, I'll be caught, and forced to make a choice between my family and my secret. Then, like my sister, I will have to painfully make a choice. But, for now, I'll just make up another story and be with my dearest Michael. University Park. There, they will compete with ROTC students from all campus for the elite symbol of a beret and flash. Good luck! Also, there are many students preparing for the process of applying for the ROTC Scholarship . Good Luck to you all ! Along with those activities ROTC will be planning repelling trips, ski tripsand possibly another helicopter trip. One activity which it is very proud of is the raising of the American Flag everyday, except rainy days assigned cadets take time out of their busy schedule to perform this special and honorable ceremony. The big event we are all looking forward to is the Awards Banquet on April 22,1988 where out standing cadets will be recognized for their time and effort to the program. I would like to wish everyone luck and success with their programs and activities. Get involved! Freshman, John Deleon is the leader of the pack in shooting percentage with an average of 54.03%. Brian Uram, freshman guard, rounds off the five starters. "Not having one star player means you don't put the pressure of scoring on an individual person and we have the potential to get double figures on a given night from any of the starters" , says coach Caccese. We also have faith in our bench, they have helped us pull out a victory in key situations.
