It is always of task to try to select the highlights of the FaII, Winter, and Spring terms. This fact is par ticularly true about this year, since great events were recorded in all phases of campus life. Here are just a few of the events that headlined "Highacres Happen ings" ,during the 1981-82 yearr' One of the first endeavors of the Student Government Association (SGA) for the year was the Freshman Orienta tion Week. SGA held a barbecue and a dance along with other events to help the freshmen ad just to campus life. While this was going on, SGA was already planning ahead for the new term. Poster sales, All-U-Day, and the Semi- Formal were all careful ly planned in advance. The Student Union Board (SUB) „never with a lapse of good ideas for fun, held a dance for all the Jitterbug, bob bysockers, greasers, and 50's enthusiasts, this was co-sponsored by the Vets Club. The campus was never lacking in cultural dvents. We were pleased to welcome the Com monwealth Stage Com pany and its presentation of "The Elephant Man." Also, early in September, the hard working staff of the Hazleton Campus Video Club (HCV) began its fall programming with "Newsview 8" every Tuesday at 7 p.m. and a new fall programming line-up. Highacres Happenings And Coming soon THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW! ! ! The Residence Hall Council (RHC) was get ting ready for an active term. Plans were in the making for a Halloween niovie week at the end of October featuring the movie "Love At First Bite." Plans were also made for the Halloween Costume Dance. Students were getting their acts together for RHC's Gong Show held October 19. First prize in the Gong , Show went to Steve Bottcher and Richard "Fester" Prewitt, who did a com edy juggling act. And the first of many Penn State skate parties were plann ed at Skate Odyssey. Lisa Vendura, SUB president, brought back the term lounge lizard days to the campus. The first Lounge Lizard event "The Rocky Hor ror Picture Show." Students, dressed as Rocky Horror players, ' threw rice, water, and toast, and brought back to life the madness of this famous cult film. Highacres Collegian held its first meeting and gave assignments for its first issue. The Collegian started off with a small, staff and - no freshmen reporters but that soon changed. SUB gave the campus a taste of Vegas as it changed the Commons into a Casino for Playboy Club Casino Night. Female and male bun nies, gambling, and good times were had by all in attendance. An krt and Poetry contest sponsored by the New Horizons was open ed to all Highacres students. Prizes for both categories were award ed. Heading the reports of October 31, HCAC Big Buddy Night went well. SGA sold over 200 posters. Applications for mini-grants were taken. SUB held a candy bar sale. The Highacres players present "I Am A Camera" November 4 to 7 in the Commons. The play was under the direc tion of Dr. Carl Frankel. Fall term ends, and students enjoys a well deserved break until classes resume. Changes in time and channel for HCV as Winter term begins. HCV is now aired Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on Channel 13. Programming featured "News View 13," "Sports View 13," and "People, Places and Things." The club went through with a holiday Christmas special in December. The New Horizons put together its 1982 calen- dar. The Collegian newspaper won many compliments on its first issue plans were already being made for the next issue! The semi-formal was held at Gus Genetti's from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. The music of Richie Molinaro and Silk was featured. The Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Jumpeter, followed through on its plans for Christmas Caroling and a Christmas Show at the Lutheran Home in Hazleton. Well, before you know it, Christmas break pass ed and the campus organizations prepared for January, February, and March. Compendium 7 By Jayne Ann Bu Headlining January, The Collegian ran into typesetting problems and the paper that was to be delivered in late December had to be pushed back to early February. Red I love you; White to a friend; and Pink I think you are sexy this could only mean one thing, SUB conducted its annual Valentine's Day carna tion sale. Gary Strausser and 'Sue Costenbader put on their dancing shoes and prepared for a dance marathon at University Park on February 5,6, and 7. Twenty-six students from the Hazleton Cam pus were selected by ad ministration, faculty and staff members to be in cluded in the 1981-82 "Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges." There is a surprise in the Commons as renovations convert the snack bar into a French Cafe. SUB holds another Cof feehouse for our campus talent. Nine teams competed - in the Pabst "Almost Anything Goes." All events were kept secret until the time of the, event! Dan Sist and Joe Pawloski won fame as they took first prizes in the New Horizons' paper
