Thank you. To Lisa and Wally and next year's SGA, good luck in everything that you venture into. Thank you for a good year. Tom Reed President Alpha Phi Omega has been active providing services to the community. This year we had two major service projects, one was the Halloween collection for UNICEF which encompassed the West Hazleton and Conyngham area. The Halloween collection was a large success, raising approximately $l5O which was above our goal. The second major service project we had was the March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon which Was held on April 29th, I atn proudto boast that oty: .organization, Alpha Phi Omega wis *tbe rafty chitPbh cahifms that 100 percent of our members participated in as workers to run the walk, which is expected to raise $7,000 for the March Sincerely. Marc A. Rovita Even though our Frat is a service organization, this year we did mix in a little socializing. The beginning of the year was interesting with a trip to Bloomsburg to the fair, where many students were enthused with the exhibits available. Our Frat started out this year with approximately two brothers and will end up with nine brothers the brothers are: Keller Taylor, Jou Zuk, John Shedleski, Kevin Phillips, Rob Tacker, Jeff Carson, Steve Kadar and Larry Mancipi. Next year; three members, will be returning/ Larry Mancini will j be president, Jeff Carson vice president and Rob will be here Fall (Crnttmed <m Pag* 8] Another chapter in the continuing saga of the Circle K Club has come to a close. As outgoing president I would like to openly comment on the progress that the Circle K Club has made in the past year. Our projects this year were directed to both the campus and the community; we have helped to prove to the city of Hazleton that the Penn State Hazleton Campus is an intergral part of the community. This year was a very successful one for Circle K. For those of you who do not remember what we have done, allow me to refresh your memory. At least once each month we have visited the shut-ins at the Lutheran Home in downtown Hazleton. At Christmas we manned a bell at the Laurel Mall for the Salvation Army. Eighteen Circle K’ers and the Nittany Lion rang a bell for nine hours to help bring some Christmas cheer to people who would have otherwise Tiave had none. February saw a first at the campus, a bowl-a-thon. Through Project Strike Out Arthritis, Circle K raised over $2OOO for the Arthritis Foundation. This year, as in the past, we again sold daffodils for the American Cancer Society. On April 21, the Highacres Circle K club assisted in the construc tion of a nature physical fittness trail at Moon Lake Park. To top off the year, we assisted with the Highacres Inter national Fencing Exhibition, another first for the Hazleton Campus. I would like to thank my fellow officers and all the members of the Circle K Club for all the help they have given me this year. Circle K is a people club, and without them none of our projects would have gotten off the ground. I also want to say thanks to our club advisor, Mr. Boyle, Mr. Skimbo, and Mr. Biacchi; their experience and foresight are one of Circle K's greatest assets. Help came to us this year from outside of our organization too. Each time Circle K made a trip to the Lutheran Home, the staff at the Administration Building saw that we had some goodies to take with us. We did not solicit their help; they came to us and offered it. 1 could go on forever; this list could fill a book. The Circle K story is like a good book, each chapter is better than the last. The next chapter introduces two new characters, President Roberta id S Cindi Fagan. Dimes. Circle K Hello! My name is Roberta Bronson and 1 am the new president of Circle Circle K is a service organization that accepts members from all majors. Several activities that I desire to continue in my year as president are the Bowl-A-Thon, the monthly visits to the nursing homes in the area, the interclubing, where other Circle K clubs from other campuses get to gether, and supporting the Kwanis Club in their activities. 1 hope to have the support of the people that are coming back to Highacres next year in the club's activities. I wish everyone a nice summer vacation. PARNASSUS The Parnassus Chapter of the Keystone Honor Society held their annual initiation of new members on April 24, 1979 in the Highacres room of the library. Guest speakers were Dr. David and Professor Andrew Kafka who donated a sculpture of Betsy Ross to Parnassus to be displayed in the library. Parnassus is an honor-service organization that recognizes the all around student. To join one must have a cumulative average of 2.5 or better, and at least two activities. Remember, if you are a member of Parnassus at Highacres, you auto matically become a member of the Keystone Honor Society at University Park. SUB The Student Union Board thanks you for your support this year. Look forward to more activities next year. The new SUB President and Vice President are Sue Novak and Peggy Hazen, respectively. The Union Board has need of members for next year. Please contact a SUB member if you would like to join. pood luck in your studies apd have a nice summer.* - * Robert Blyler < SUB President RHC Before I get to the meat of today’s column, I’d like to use this space in the Highacres Collegian to publicly thank all of the people who made this year’s RHC ROAD RALLY a success. Although not perfect, the 1979 RHC Road Rally was enjoyed by all of those who participated. Even though we would have liked to have everyone who entered to have won, there could only be one winning pair. The winners of the Road Rally were Don Green and Dave Erb, followed by George Kahlbough and Leslie Nothstien in second place, with Jim Goodin and Lisa Tornock in third place, the rest of the field finished with scores that were huddled together in a tight pack (less than 200. points separated fourth place and tenth place). Aside from the Road Rally, April was a very busy month for the Residence Hall Council; RHC also held its elections for the 1979-1980 officers. The winners of this election were Paul Huffman, president; Dave Erb, vice president; C.J. Staudenmiere, treasurer, and Megan Kresge, secretary. I’d like to take this time to congratulate these people and to wish them luck for next year. Before I say farewell to RHC and Highacres, I’d like to thank all of the people who made this year enjoyable for myself and RHC. First, I’d like to thank my council, without these people RHC would be a name, and not a living, breathing, entity at Highacres. Next I’d like to thank the Highacres Club Advisory Council for providing communications between RHC and all of the other clubs on campus. I’d also like to thank our advisor Mr. Thomas Shee for his knowledge and guidance that he supplied throughout the year. Last, but definitely not least. I’d like to thank you, the students of Highacres who gave the Residence Hall Council a purpose. Looking back at this school year, I noticed that RHC has made great strides to become a campus oriented organization and not just a "dorm club.” I hope that next year’s RHC will pick up this ball and run with it.
