Study Aid Do you have difficulty study ing? Are you uncertain of. how to go about taking good lecture notes? Does term paper prepar ation baffle your mind? If your answer to the above questions is positive, do not despair. Your problems may be over. On December 11, a committee chaired by Mr. James White, Ca reer Development and Placement Counselor at Highacres, will hold a one-day seminar designed to teach study skills to inter ested students. Still in the planning stages, the program at present will consist of two seminars. One will be held in the Commons on the morning of December 11 for commuting stu dents and the other will be held the saMe evening in the Residence Hall for dorm stu dents. White said the committee hopes to have faculty repre sentatives to run the program in the areas of physics, chem istry, English, social science, biology, and mathematics. The faculty members will teach study skills using an interest ing approach, sharing their college' experiences in terms of study with the students. The presentation will include a question-answer period covering such topics as how to study for objective, subjective, and es say tests; term paper.prepara tion; note-taking; study re sources; reading; and most im portant of all, management of study time. Time management is essential according to White, because although students may already know how to study cor rectly from experiences in high school, the volume of work in college is comparatively great er; thus, students may be wast ing time by studying ineffi ciently. White commented on the pro gram by pointing out that "we (the committee and faculty) could endlessly feed students information on proper study skills, but without student self-application, nothing will have been accomplished. Moti vation is paramount. Students must want to study." White also stated that,"The program will be useful only to those students who want to study correctly, but are not sure how to go about doing it."
