October 17, 1955 (Noble cont’d) In relation to the work of this paper, this reporter has found him to be a very easy person to just Sit and chat with, and often very informative* So, once again, the best of luck in everything; from the Collegian Staff and the entire student body* Mr, Kostos tours Airbases Ihis past August, Mr, Frank Kostos, Administrative Head at the Hazleton Center, and Captain Walter Carper, the Center’s Air Force R.O.T.C. Instructor, were invited by Colonel Riva, Head of the *,F, -R.O.T.C, at the Penn State University, to tour the Hunter Strategic Air Command Base in Savannah, Georgia, where the summer training courses were being held. Monday morning, August Bth, Mr, Kostos and Captain Carper drove to the Middletown Air Base which is near Harrisburg, From Middletown, Captain Carper pilotc 1 a C-54 plane to Hunter Base, stopping in Altoona to pick up Mr, Robert Eiche, Administrative Head at the Altoona Center, Lieutenant Visnovsky, R»O.T.C. Instructor at the same Center and Major Casey, and then proceeded to their destination. A program was planned for thi s group including a tour of the operations of the base, visiting the students, and a tour of the barracks. Some of the visitors from Florida, Kentucky, North and South Carolina, and Pennsylvania were taken for a thirty minute jet plane ride. Mr, Kostos enjoyed this ride immensely. On their return flight, Wednesday, afternoon, Mr. Kostos and Captain Carper toured Maxwell Air Base, Montgomery, Alabama which is the Air Force University where most of the academic training takes place. HAZLETON COLLEGIAN *hhhbbhast* Ihe following day, they spent visiting Donaldson Air Base in Greenville, South Carolina* Then they flew to the Middletown Air Base and came back to Hazleton by automobile* Mr, Kostos was greatly impressed to learn that the Air Force is counting on its’ future officers from the R,0.. TC. ranks. He said that every R<,O«.T,C, student that enjoys the Air Force training should continue on to advanced work and train to become a future officer in the Air Force, Mr, Kostos says this will be un forgettable tour. He only wishes that every person would have the opportunity to share and enjoy the experiences that ho had while on the tour of the Air Force R.O.T.C, bases, ACADEMIC PROBATION 1 Pennsylvania State University law states that students who fail 35 percent of their credits for any semester, and who are not dropped, because their All-University average does not fall below 1,65, will be placed on academic probation. All students whose average falls belpw 1,65, are also placed on probation* If a student’? All-University average falls below 1.5, and the student has not had a 2.2 or better for his "most recent" semester or a 2.0 or better for "each of his two most recant semesters," he will be dropped from the University, Under the old grading system, a student was required to maintain a grade of .65 or better. The old .65 is n©w equivalent to the 1,65 stated in the University law. At the same time, 1,5 is equivalent to ,5 under the old system and 2 T 2 is equal to 1.2. (cont’d. Page 4) Page 3
