Review by: Captain Hollywood Artist/Group: Shelter Album Title: When 20 Summers Pass Label: Victory Release Date: April 25, 2000 Genre: Hardcore/Punk Overall Rating: When 20 Summers Pass is Shelter’s sixth album and their first on Victory Records. With positive lyrics and fast, upbeat music, Shelter is a bit friendler than most hardcore bands. The songs are a bit simple with not much to them. It’s not their best work, but overall the album is good. The 12 songs run about 30 minutes. For Fans of: H2O, Grey Area Reviewed by: Dr. Peter Venkman Artist/Group: Project 86 Album Title: Drawing Black Lines Label: Atlantic Release Date: March 21, 2000 Genre: Loud Rock Overall Rating: This is by far my favorite album of the semester! The first track, for instance, is extremely diverse. It takes you from heavy guitar tones to chaotic explosions. The next track is the band’s first mainstream single, One Armed Man(Play On), which displays incredible background vocals. This is a loud and heavy album with melodic and passion ate strength. It delivers on so many more levels than music from Limpßizkit or Korn. This is 100 percent original music that delivers with lyrics about loss and finding. You must buy this album!!! It’s the only album on which I like all tracks!! For Fans of: Deftones, Tool, P.O.D. Reviewed by: J. Dub Artist/Group: Common Album Title: Like Water for Chocolate Label: MCA Release Date: unknown Genre: Hip-hop Overall Rating: &&&$$ Once again, one of the illest mc’s from Chicago gets no play. His album is unbelievable; his lyrics and beats are so tight. He has brought out a hip-hop classic. He’s outdone himself on this album. This is definitely an album you chill to. For Fans of: DeLa Soul, Talib FEATURES Reviewed By: Dirty Sanchez Group: Snapcase Album Title: Designs For Automotion Label: Victory Release Date: January 2000 Genre: Hardcore Rating: ss*sss This is the fourth release for Snapcase. Even though this CD came out at the beginning of the year, I decided to review it because it is my favorite release this semester. Though this five-piece does come from New York, and spe cialize in hardcore, this album, like their others is not your typi cal rough-edge New York hard core. This album has a sound of its own: smooth, energetic. The lyrics, a reflection of an educated bunch, motivate progression both individually as well as socially. Who says all hardcore is for the thugs and alleyway mon gers. If you’re a Snapcase fan I’m sure you picked up this album the day it hit the shelves. If you’re not familiar with this band, I recomend picking up a copy, taking it home, closing your door, cranking up the stereo, kinkin’ back, and becom ing one with a truly great album. For Fans Of. Lyrically— Bad Religion, Musically— Grade, In My Eyes Ratings Kev Horrible $ I’ve Heard Worse && Borrow or Steal It, Don’t Buy It ### I Would Probably Buy It ssss Stupendous
