Miller returns to his post as Division Head of Behavioral Sciences and Educa tion, he says he will be "able to see and understand in much broader terms" due to his year of service as a temporary replace- ment for Dr. Theodore Gross "I can see more possibilities in Behavioral Sciences because of the experience," observes Miller as he nears the end of his stint behind the wheel at Penn State's upper division campus. "It has been an excellent ex perience. I have been able to en joy it more because I was not a candidate and knew all along that the position was temporary." Miller laments the fact that be ing temporarily in charge has cer tain drawbacks. "When you are only acting (provost)," he says, "the payoff for your work is not seen." He does note that a few projects which he was able to begin--such as the remodeling of the Admis sions Office--will represent the time he has spent in office. "I am looking forward to the "What I like doing best is helping people do what they do best." Dr. Ruth Leventhal Incoming Provost completion of some moves started by Dr. Gross," he states. Those moves, as well as new buildings either under construction or in the planning stages, "will give us a bright new look come next fall. It is satisfying to know that one had a part in it." While Miller says the worst part of the job has been "any time I have to say 'no' to a re- quest" because of the unavailability of funds, he says he has realy enjoyed working with the various factions of the cam pus community. "The students, staff and facul ty have been great," he points out. "Everyone has been splendid and cooperative." He also men tions that he has gotten to know more faculty and students outside of his division. "I just continue to be impress ed with the quality of people here. Obviously I'm looking for ward to returning to my division, but I have been helped immensely by the experience (as provost)." He adds that he is looking for ward to the next administration. "It is exciting having a new provost," he notes. "It's like having a new start--exciting and fun."
