The conference is entitled "Lan guaging: The Essential Ingredient in Reading." Dorothy Strickland, incom ing president of the International Reading Association, will give the keynote address, "Teaching Reading as a Language." She will also lecture on "Hands-on- Languaging Experiences for the Classroom." Gallery Lounge Middletown - Tom McKinney, a 37-year old freelance painter from Philadelphia, currently has some of his work on display in the Gallery Lounge at Penn State-Capitol Campus. McKinney is a regular contributor to the Virginia Beach Art Show, where he has won awards for his watercolors. He has exhibited in a one-man show at the Georgetown Art Gallery. His work is also on display in various schools in the Philadelphia area. Among his works in the Gallery Lounge are portraits of Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, Martin Luther King, Miles Davis, and the Beatles. CULTURAL EVENTS Harry Chapin's Brother the star of the children's television series "Make A Wish," which won T.V.'s Emmy and Peobody Awards. He also wrote the music for, and starred in, the documenta ry film "Blue Water, White Death." Chapin's first solo album on Fantasy Records is entitled "Life is Like That," and includes both rock and folkstyle original music. He has performed at more than 150 colleges and clubs across the United States and Canada. In February, 1977, he went on a 50-date tour through America with singer Janis lan. Chapin's concert is being organized and sponsored by F & M's student-run College Entertainment Committee, I headed by Randy Brown, a junior from Millburn, N.J.
