The five judges were Jamie Grimm, assis tant Dean of Student Affairs, Ed McClosky, Coordinator For Residence Life Programs, Doug Gainor, S.G.A. President, Janet O'Hare, S.P.C. President, and Bill Packwood, student at large. The first act of the Best of The Best was Audrey Henderson sing ing "You Give Good Love." Her performance was excellent and Whitney Houston was a hit. The second act was "The Greatest Love of All" with Jan Thompson per forming a very creative modern dance. P.; is it coincidence, intuition, or supranormal? Exploring the in tangible reaches of the mind is a fascinating business. One that has prompted more research and en couraged more experimentation than any other of its kind. For the past twenty-five years, Russ Burgess has been exploring this phenomenon along with parap sychology, hypnotism and sug gestology. In 1967, he developed the "Burgess Method of Medita tion," which allows one to re juvenate one's entire system using the science of suggestology. The method consists of a series of exer cises coupled with concentration and meditation that can be learned in just one 90 minute class. After the initial instructed meditation, one can continue and maintain pro per meditation benefits in just fif teen minutes daily. Some of the benefits that can be achieved from using the Burgess Method of Meditation are as follows: A. reduction of hypertension, stress, and anxiety B. sharpened memory and reflexes and C. improved general health. Russ Burgess has performed demonstrations of E. S. P. on live national television and at various colleges, including M. I. T. and at Berkley, both as entertainment and under strict academic skepticism. One nationally acclaimed part of his program includes his amazingly accurate predictions of newspaper headlines. Singing and dancing was again the attraction with Marilyn Lamore performing a lip sinc to "Count Me Out" The audience really responded to the energy fill ing the room as she danced across the floor. Finally, in The Best of Best por tion of the show, was Steve Stegman and The Motown Sounds. They stole the show with their classic A Cappella version of "Under the Boardwalk," "Calender Girl," and "Do Wa Dittie." As for The Best of The Worst, the first act, simply called "Bum mit," performed an amusing ver sion of "Margaritaville." While Jack held up a sign that said "boo hiss," Dee Gross , Jan Thompson and Stacey did a lip sine to "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman." Dressed in printed housecoats, yellow wigs and ban danas in their hair they were a fun group, to be sure. Once after a performance, Mr. Burgess was asked if he would try to identify the place where a gun, used to murder a prominent politi cian's wife, had been hidden. He was shown maps of the area and he "received an image of a hand put ting a gun in the mud by a bubbling stream." Later the gun was found in a marshy, swampy area about a quarter of a mile from a bubbling stream. When asked about the inci dent, Burgess replied, "I don't think this kind of thine will play a major role in my future, but if police ask for my help, of course I will be glad to give it." 1. The audience participation was great, it realty psyched the performers. Ed McClosky was greatly im pressed with the singers because they "gave it their own touch. They didn't copy the original artists." Jamie Grimm was really happy about the great success of the show also, "We need more and more." Doug Gainor, Janet O'Hare and Bill Packwood were also glad to see so much talent emerge right from their own campus. Bill said that the shoW was great because, "It was a bunch of people just having a good time." Jack Horner was hilarious as emcee of the show. He kept the au dience laughing and entertained between each act. "The large crowd and great participation at the talent show loosened up the performers as well as myself. "I'd like to see that many people and more at future events scheduled by S.P.C. and Student Activities," said Jack, "I loved it and I hope they schedule another one soon." E. ,S._P.: fact or fiction?
