That is it’s very successful. Coach Jan Wilson’s Lady Cubs (as of Oct. 16) were 12-7 and 1-0 in the Western Division of the Women’s Keystone Conference. Tonight the Lady Spikers host Grove City (a conference match) and Gannon in a tri-match slated to start at 6 p.m. On Oct. 16 Behrend swept its second consecutive home, tri match by defeating Geneva Col lege (Behrend’s first conference win) and Villa Maria College. The Lady Cubs downed Geneva by scores of 15-10, 15-4, 14-16 and 15-10. The Cubs dropped their first home-decision of the year, 1-0 to the 8-3-1 Lakers. For Behrend it was the second consecutive one goal loss after a brief three-game winning streak. Behrend outshot Mercyhurst, 21-12 and for the most part dominated play in the second half but for the fifth time this season could not put the ball in the net. The only goal of the game oc cured in the second half, at the 50:18 mark, when Mercyhurst junior forward Tom Mulligan drilled a 30-yard shot (aided by a strong wind) over the head of Cub goalie Dave Kun. Lady Cubs win tourney by Jim Parachini Collegian Sports Editor For the third straight year Penn State-Behrend’s women’s volleyball team captured the Fredonia tournament by defeating St. Bonaventure Saturday in the finals. The Lady Cubs (18-8) prevailed over the Bonnies by scores of 16-14, 15-12. On the day Behrend won four of five matches with the only loss being to St. Bonaventure in an earlier match. The Lady Cubs were also victorious over Buffalo State (15-5, 15-6), Thiel College (11-15, 15-11, .15-10) and in the semifinals Gannon University, 2-15, 15-8, 15-13. In men's soccer action Behrend knotted conference rival Slippery Rock, 1-1 Saturday. Sophomore forward Joe Kushon scored the lone Cub goal which tied the game in the first half. For Kushon it was his seventh goal of the season, two behind team-leader Mike Hockenberger’s nine. In preserving the tie Behrend captain, senior goalkeeper Larry Guenther, stopped a penalty kick with just three minutes remaining in the second overtime. After 13 matches the Cubs are 5-5-3 overall.and 3-3-1 in the Pen nsylvania Intercollegiate Soccer Conference.
